My current Model Y long range is due to be replaced later in the year. And looking at options (sub £60k) with > 400 miles, I get:

- Mercedes CLA Shooting brake (various specs)
- DS 8
- Another Model Y LR
- Polestar 4

(These are lease cars)

Anyone looked at the above compared to a Model Y?

Lots of other options, don’t fancy an MG or vw for some reason, nor a BMW.

Hard to see past the new iX3 with the 109kWh battery to be honest with that budget and a 400 mile real world range requirement. Or maybe the new Volvo EX60 with 114kWh?

The Polestar 4 and Model Y realistically aren't getting close to that.

Objectively (and you probably already know this) the best "tool" for the job is probably the Tesla. Best software, great reliability and a welcome, incremental improvement on the outgoing Y. I really liked it when I tested.

But I have just gone Model 3 > VW ID.Buzz because I fancied a change (albeit, probably for the worst in a lot of respects) - so I can appreciate wanting to move away from the Tesla brand just for change's sake.

The Mercedes looks pretty dull to me, but it has kerb appeal and looks like an executive saloon / looks expensive

DS no. 8 (shiiiite name) looks compelling but I have yet to see one in the metal. I suspect, like a lot of French products, it will come with certain 'quirks' which make it frustrating to live with. I don't think the DS number 8 will be compelling enough to forgive any shortcomings... But perhaps that's unfair as no detailed or long-term reviews exist yet. I don't think the looks will age well.

Finally the Polestar 4 - I personally don't like how it looks (although it's no more offensive than the others) and it's a big, wide car. Wider and almost as long as my new ID.Buzz, which is a literal van. I've heard mixed reports about software / reliability too, but then you only ever hear the negatives online / reddit etc. The looks would kill it for me - could you not get the much better-looking Polestar 3?

For me, it would depend on how useful you find the Tesla network and how often you need to charge when away from home.

The Juniper MY is a really compelling package.

Subjective of course. The Model Y not exactly a looker either..

Whilst this forum is not often known for it's understatement, you have just knocked it up several notches laugh

I personally would think about the ID7 estate as it's a lot roomier than the CLA. If you can wait for Zeekr 7s to arrive in the UK, I'd strongly consider one of those too.

As it’s a company car lease deal what’s the difference in monthly price?

You're not getting anywhere close to the claimed 400+ mile range in an ID7 though with an 86kWh battery. 300 miles would be realistic (3.5 miles/kWh average)

New Merc GLC electric - I think a base one is just under 60k...

Although if it's a lease car, why does the RRP matter? Your budget is the monthly cost surely!?

If I was looking for a new car at the moment then I'd also look at Smart #5. The Brabus version is on my shortlist for November when my Model 3 goes back. They get good write ups and seem very well specced. I've also never spotted one on the road.

Also the charge port is in the right position, i.e. on the passenger side at the rear like a Tesla, makes it easier to use the Tesla chargers without blocking a space.

UKTrailmonster just went through this same process and posted detailed reviews on his findings. He appears to be rational and considered in his comments and was replacing an older Model Y. He ended up with a new Y P.
It's on here somewhere.

I had a Model Y for 4 years, and recently changed to a Polestar 4. I have a young family, but also do a large amount of miles for work.

The tesla has more boot space and has much better software. Overall I'd suggest it is a better more well rounded car.

The Polestar looks a lot better, is much nicer to drive, and feels much more like a luxury product (the interior is really nice). It's big inside for passengers, but the boot and frunk arent as big or practical as the Tesla. I haven't had any of the software issues I've read about so far (2500 miles).

True, but if the range is enough in my two suggestions, they're both great cars in other areas.

In part the choice is limited by the lease cost. BMW (I don’t want one anyhow) are really £ thru the lease cost, possible an Audi Q4.

Polestar 4 too £.

I wasn’t gonna think about MG but the new IM5 in 740bhp or so guise would be interesting, in a straight line atleast.

Having had a Tesla Y LR for 3years, despite some other options
- the CLA is a little small inside (I had a 250E previously) vs the model Y

I am coming to think the replacement Y is likely what I’ll go for. Will have a look round the showrooms first mind to.

We have an MG dealer 2 miles from home for the IM5

Polestar is the nicest place to be. Tesla is the modern mondeo. Merc could have a mega range?

I saw a CLA in that grey crayon colour they do and I thought it looked good. Better than that awful free blue

They also look decent in white.

And there’s now the new GLB if SUV are your thing. One oddity with the Merc EVs is that the heated wheel only comes with the highest premium plus trim level. It could be there as a “digital” option on lesser models as that appears to be how they are going.

Higher spec GLBs also come with adaptive suspension as standard along with the 20” wheels , should help them ride nicely.
