Decent hotel / restaurant Monmouth area?
Discussion
I just spent Easter at the Royal George in Tintern. Nice place, very helpful staff, comfortable rooms. Pub food at front, restaurant at the back, pizza oven in the garden. Also a cafe/coffee shop on site.
Pub food was good with large portions. 2-3 cask ales. The restaurant is not fine dining, but good quality, well cooked, and reasonably priced for these days. Pizza was not as good as I'd hoped it would be for a wood-fired outdoor oven, but it was the first weekend they'd opened it for the season so maybe they'll get the hang of it.
Nice area, good walking and plenty to do.

Another vote for the royal George In tintern, great Sunday roast ( ate there for Easter) loads to do in tintern walk wise, rooms look good, it s really been taken upmarket
The whitebrook near by is excellent if you want taster menu Michelin stuff and they have rooms
Stone rock lodge in Chepstow if you want cheap and cheerful and one
Of the best pizzas around
There s always the Celtic manor if you want some
Chintz, spa, bars, golf etc or the newbridge on usk for refined pub rooms, or they also have the ty Newport and coldra court hotels near by
The priory in caerleon is excellent, rooms, Spanish inspired food with a meat age thing, fish, bodega, in the Roman town so a good couple of things to see, there s also a excellent sushi place in Carleon
Monmouth itself is mostly b&bs but don t miss a flat white in Coffilab or a pastry from Alex gooch
Wouldn’t rule out Cardiff either, st David’s in the bay or the Parkgate by the millennium stadium, pictons in the bay for food or pasture in the city centre for excellent steak and Sunday roast
