Anyone got one of these or ridden one? I binned my bikes off a few years back due to lack of use but keep getting a hankering for another. I'd always fancied a sports bike but being the best part of 25 stone it was never really a serious consideration. Now I've dropped 8 stone I'm really liking the look of the XSR900 GP, enough poke to have fun without being silly fast and I'm a big fan of the styling.

Anyone got experience of one?

They look beautiful but I’ve heard they are very small.
Congratulations on the weight loss but they might still be a squeeze.

I love the look of the GP, but I'd probably get the R9 instead as it's supposed to be a lot more comfortable.

There's a fairly recent episode of the Motorbike Show with Henry pottering around the Cotswold's on one of these. Pretty sure his summing up was similar to the above, nice bike, but excruciatingly uncomfortable!

Great looking bike but think you'd be happier size wise on an MT09 if the engine is a big draw, in fact there's not much this side of a VFR400 thats smaller!

I have the non GP XSR 900 and have owned it for 2 years now, absolutely love it. I had one before and sold it then realised the error of my ways and bought another new one in 2024.

I was drawn to the GP version but in the end kept mine with the normal bars and its such a versatile bike, jump on and go with no bother, plenty of power for the road and with the right exhaust sounds incredible. I'm 5"11 and average build, they are fairly wide tank but you are not stretched out at all, I find it very comfy for longer rides but then i don't have the clip ons!

Nice one cheers guys. I think I need to get a test ride on one, couple of the reviews comment that it's quite spacious for taller riders but they do comment about the wrist ache after a hour or two, which I'd assumed was just part of a sports bike tbh. I doubt I'll do any real distance on it, just some back road rides and the odd trip out for the afternoon.

I had an XSR 700 previously, the draw of this is the looks really, it just looks so cool laugh I'm still toying with a Grom too just for mucking about on but I feel like something a bit bigger would be used more.

Good idea, go and get a test ride, probably some good deals going as well, beautiful looking bike but I think compared to some sport bikes these should be relatively comfortable and very easy to live with, also a nice sight when you open the garage!

I am sure they are a great bike to ride but they are hardly a looker, really don't see the beauty that others see in it, in face I would go further and say one of the ugliest bikes you can currently buy, opinions eh biggrin

I don't really understand the comments about it feeling small, actually the opposite is true...

The reach to the tank is long, so if you have short upper body/arms you end up feeling stretched out. Karl at MCN is racer build and struggled to find it comfortable because of this: He added a seat pad.

I'm 183cm with 'normal' arms (I think biggrin) and I find it super comfortable (for a supersport position). The bars are slightly higher than the R9, but the reach to the tank makes it quite different. Best to sit on it and try.

Other than that, I adore the way it feels and rides. If the design speaks to you then I don't think you'll find anything comparative on the market.

I went to look at a mt 09 at this place ( sycamore Oakham ) , I believe this bike was in the showroom at the time , what caught my eye was a Racer pack at £3,000 ! , I think 1,000 for a sport pack / performance pack is expensive , I’d be intrested to know what you get for your £3,000 ponds

Yamaha EU state it is £2783 for the pack which includes - Akrapovic system, paint matched lower fairing, tinted screen and and tail tidy

The majority is in the lower fairing and mainly the exhaust as when going through Yamaha approved resellers on the EU site for the exhaust i’ve found one for £1833 brand new

I like these a lot. I've sat on them at shows, they're not small, I'm 181cm and about the same weight as you are now (congrats on that, wish I had the discipline to do that) and found it very comfy on board. I've not ridden one though so can't comment on the engine. Buy one, please!! smile

The tail isn't that tidy, and the exhaust doesn't look that great either. I'd want to lower fairing though.

I much prefer this exhaust from ZARD, it screams YZR500

Unfortunately, Manufacturer approved and homologated exhausts since EU5 are expensive with little weight saving, sound, or power gains to be had.

The days of a cheap slip on giving 10 extra ponies and a nice burble are long gone, unless you're willing to void your warranty with an aftermarket remap...

Try £5k plus fitting…🤪 https://ducatistore.uk/products/ducati-racing-exha...

And that’s to make you’re bike sound like a tractor and be illegal

Had a job in a town with a Yamaha dealer local this morning so stopped by.

Didn't ride it (I've got no bike gear anymore). Looks just as good in the metal, felt a good size, plenty of room for me and the bars are higher than I expected. I'm sure after a couple of hours it might be a bit achy but I think I'd be happy enough on it for a decent amount of saddle time. I'm very tempted, going to think it over and make a decision after the weekend I think.
