As title really, I can’t find a photo of this specific camera on line but it’s on a lamp post near a bridge on my regular commute, I’ll try and bag a photo on the way home

It's just (yet) another of these bizarre "what camera is this" posts.

We've recently had cameras up on various routes locally, on a pole attached to bridge handrails, or lamp posts. They've got a sign on the pole that says "these are traffic survey cameras, they're not being used to enforce anything or to gather any evidence of anything" and giving contact details for the firm that installed them. It took about a day for someone to post a photo asking "what are these for?" and for people to respond with made-up nonsense, though it's more difficult to tell how many of those were real and how many were tongue in cheek.

They looked like this: https://macclesfield.nub.news/news/local-news/why-...

I can reveal all ... they are enforcement cameras designed to target those that drive in a straight line and release a new generation of autonomous drone that will seek and destroy the offending vehicle

Fortunately due to his username the Op is exempt

Hope that helps

Now, if they'd have been oblong rather than letterbox that's a whole other story

The tension's mounting here in downtown Chesterfield where news teams are standing by for the big announcement about the mystery camera's purpose - will it come soon?

biglaugh

I would suggest that OP is not exempt, he merely has a "a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. "

weather was rubbish so no photo today sorry folks, it could be to stop or catch vehicles over 7.5 tons crossing the bridge as said bridge about 50 meters after the mystery device does have a few signs stating the weight limit.

its also good for a bit of air on anything with two wheels and a bit of pep..... so I've been told

Could it be a camera to warn HGV drivers of a height restricted bridge further along the road , I live near one of the most bashed bridges in the country in the A5 in Leicestershire and they have cameras and signs warning HGV's they are over the height needed to pass through..?

You can't leave it at that, is that a measurement in gas, electric or water meters?
