Hi there folks, my mate has a polo gti 2018 (new shape) when you rev it on standstill, and the revs fall off it sounds like the chain rattles? there's no noise on startup and the car drives fine. It's done under 40k, main dealer says there's nothing wrong with it, but I'm assumoing they're just going by what they see on the live data and not the noise? They also say they can't hear the noise. Thanks

Does it have a dual mass flywheel or rattly heatshields?

The noise does appear to come from the top of the rockercover.

Did the same main dealer sell it to him recently by any chance?

If not, find another dealer to get a second opinion.

Some dealers will say they can't find fault if they don't fancy the job.

Spot on, it's the supplying dealer that has said this. Other dealers are fully booked for diagnostics for the next two months.

It looks like they're using their laptops instead of their ears.

How long exactly has he owned the car?

And how long after purchase did he report the fault to the supplying dealer?

Owned it for roughly 6-7 weeks, reported the fault 2 weeks into ownership. He's asked about a refund but it's not in their policy, I've looked myself too.

Ok, so just to double confirm.

He bought the car from a VW main dealer, and it's the same VW main dealer that's saying there's no fault.

He'll have to get a second opinion from another garage, VW main dealer is best, but not one from the same dealer group he bought it from. Tell the supplying dealer what you're doing, as you don't agree there's no fault.

If he took out finance on the car, tell him to call finance company to do a "quality complaint" for engine rattle. This gets the timeline nicely set in stone.

If the other dealer reports there is a fault, forward this to the supplying dealer.

At this point, he has to decide whether to outright reject (30 days rule) or allow the dealer one chance at repair. Helpful at this stage to contact Citizens advice who will give it a case number, and guide him through the process.

Come back to us if he gets the fault confirmed.

Yes what you've written is correct, it's possible to get it diagnosed by another main dealer but there's a few months waiting list.

I'll get back to you and let you know the outcome, thanks for your help 🙂
