Just talking to a work mate who is looking at getting and Ebike, he asked me about this scheme

https://beeactive.tfgm.com/ebike-subsidy-scheme/

Scroll down to the Am I eligible? Section

Is that allowed?

Anyway I advised my work mate to get a second hand one

This has got some coverage (mainly on social media) for that exact reason - is it allowed?

Maybe the council is having a rethink, which could be why the link to the survey that applicants have to fill out is currently dead?

If your friend is looking for a used ebike, I predict that there'll be a lot of second-hand ones with zero miles available very soon after the scheme launches.

That is genuinely insane.

Say you're gay for a £1000 off a bike. The more gay you are the more you get off essentially.

Just wow.

Website states

"While anyone aged 16+ living in Greater Manchester can apply, eligibility is assessed on a case by case basis, with priority given to individuals and communities who are underrepresented in cycling or who experience financial or practical barriers. This includes, but is not limited to:

People living in areas of higher deprivation

Ethnic minority communities

LGBTQIA+ people

Women and gender diverse people

Individuals with lower incomes or limited access to affordable transport

People who may traditionally be less visible or less represented in cycling"

Surely this has to be a bad joke? Like the majority of men could I identify as a lesbian in a mans body and be eligible..... the world has gone mad.

Fair play, I didnt expect anything to top the latest SNP idea to award everyone identifying as an artist £15k/yr in Scotland, but £1000 towards an ebike because you're gay is up there.

Does it really matter, or this just another “let’s all run around screaming woke and start punching walls in anger” thread?

The first thing on the list is people living in deprived areas and the list “includes, but is not limited to” so basically it includes everyone, unless you want it to specifically it excludes those people who don’t fit your world view?

In any case “ This scheme is now closed for applications.” So it matters even less than zero, or at least it should do, but for some it will be their latest thing to get angry about.

What does "people traditionally less visible on a bike" actually mean?

These people?

They could have left it to the first line then.

It's clearly aimed at the other lines otherwise they wouldn't be there. I think the first line was put in to get it past whoever signed it off.

I despise Farage. But this sort of stuff is why he's polling at around 20%.

They could have done, but they might have a policy around highlighting minorities and naming them to try to get them to apply. It doesn’t really matter.

Farage is a separate discussion, someone who is telling people that their failed lives aren’t their fault it’s the fault of <insert your favourite personal outrage / minority>. Red meat for life’s failures, hard of thinking and general idiots.

This discussion is, if we’re being honest, a classic example of it. We don’t know how much was set aside for this, it’s finished anyway so is historic and we’ve already had some outraged patriot pushing the boundaries by posting a photo of someone on an electric motorbike, because they don’t actually know what an e-bike is.

As a straight, white, male on reasonable income I don't think I'll be near the top of the list sadly.

That said I do have hairy legs so that probably counts as something that's under represented in cycling!

We will see more of this in time imo.

This is what happens when the woke kids grow up and start making policy for local government.

Some 23 year old with totally different values and perspectives will have thought of this.

The companies that are involved in projects like this dont care either as they get paid their millions.

Just like the LEZ in Manchester that cost 100s of millions and was scrapped when the grown ups realized what was happening.

I was on a consulting meeting and not a single person involved could tell me anything about the costs to buy a goods vehicle, what constituted a goods vehicle and what the requirements were to obtain a license and maintain those vehicles and licence. Disgusting.

The companies involved all got paid. Lunacy.

Woke this, woke that, woke the other. It’s really tedious reading this stuff so often on here. Doesn’t it get boring? Wouldn’t all decisions made by any government, or authority in the last century be claimed as “woke” by those opposed to it?

As you didn’t write the post how do you know? There’s no clue that it was a joke, there’s no smiley. Also, the poster had a nice little rant about gay people getting the discount a bit earlier in the discussion. Was that a joke too? Maybe everyome is just joking?
