Orange Windscreens

Well, the trite answer is that something this ugly MUST be illegal...
But, I had made maybe a stupid assumption that the visibility of the driver must be impaired? If not, why are Plod interested in over tinted wide windows?
The windscreen is the widest window in the car. :-)

As long as light transmission remains high enough, the chameleon tints are legal. They don’t block as much as you expect.

... except that regular glass already takes most windscreens close to the legal limit. Just 90% film on 80% factory screen takes you down to an illegal 72%.Having not seen one up close (its the kinda thing that doesn't appeal to me), are they orange when viewed out of, or is it more of a coloured reflective coating similar to one-way mirrored glass on buildings?
Anyway, the max tint on the front screen is 75% (ie 75% of the light must get through), for info.
I remember the Mk1 Golf GLS being available with bronze tinted windows, of course it was quite subtle but considered "luxury" back in the 80s.

I personally think they just scream knob. Am I the only person that won’t let a car out of a side road or turn across in front of me if it has illegally tinted front side windows or this reflective wrap? Part of my reasoning is that you can’t make eye contact or visually confirm they have seen you .
Taking this
But I would also say it's a reasonable assumption. If anyone is brave enough to admit to having such a film, feel free to correct me though.
Ps they are useful in that they indicate the driver is probably a nob. They have taken on the function of those little blue lights on the bonnet windscreen washers jets.

They may be legal but in many cases they will be an undeclared modification on the insurance policy. An enthusiastic Plod might take more than a passing interest and check.

That is pure assumption that they won t be declared
Hmm, I would agree it is an assumption, because it's unlikely Nick has checked everyone's policy. But I would also say it's a reasonable assumption. If anyone is brave enough to admit to having such a film, feel free to correct me though.
