After reading the 'Alliance against 4x4s' thread in General Gassing, and reading website belonging to these numpties, I still can't get into the mindset of people who devote their lives to trying to ban things. It seems the sad reality that they really have nothing better to do than to deliberately bother other people, rather than getting on with their own lives.

I suppose the fact that I've been on the receiving end of a ban (had my handguns taken, sorry...stolen by the Govt in '97) gives me a different perspective but even without that, I can just think of so many better ways to spend my time rather than looking for things to ban...particularly banning inanimate objects (like guns or 4x4's), since this is a technical solution to a personnel problem. So...has anyone here ever tried to get something banned and why, or am I right and its an activity only for numpties?

[small]Disclaimer: I accept there probably are exceptions to the rule, but stand by the fact the vast majority of campaigns to ban things are numpty led.[/small]

makePOVERTYhistory. Didn't campaign as such, merely joined in. Otherwise, I hate minority groups telling me and the government what we can or cannot do in our own time.

Some years ago, I went home early from work and sat with my kids watching childrens' TV. I was shocked by some of the content (naked witches). As such, I wrote to a number of people in Government. The upshot was, there was a change in the broadcasting guidelines.

Sort of, I have been and am continuing to harass my local MP and councillors for the removal of certain road obstacles around my way. These aren't road humps as such but long humped arrays of bricks down the centre of a narrow street, in parts where there are bays (widened parts of the roads) the humps are higher. You are supposed to use the widened part of the road to drive around them but the local's use them as parking areas, leaving no room to get around, so you have to drive over them very, very slowly.

People do park out on the road, even those with drives and garages, because of course they want to lock all their cheap crap in the garage whilst keeping their expensive cars out on the road. Which makes it an absolute nightmare to drive along there.

I'm too lazy to bother doing anything pointless like that.

You git! I loved the naked witches. I'd put my one-eyed newt in their cauldrons any day!

I campaigned against the use of speed cameras on the M4 (was in the go-slow convoy), I've written to my local MP several times outlining my objections to proposed changes in motoring/transport legislation (local MP even raised my objections in Parliament on one issue) and I often pass on the information I have gained from this and the pepipoo site on how to beat the system when it comes to speeding tickets, which I guess is a campaign in it's own right.
