Manufacturing a new toy
Discussion
Does anyone have any experience manufacturing a new toy concept in the UK or overseas.
I have a very cool idea that no one in the world seems to be doing.
I have a solid proposal, but nervous about approaching the more establised businesses that operate in the same sector (IP risk), so want to explore protoyping etc myself first.
It's a blissfully simple idea, and i'm very confident the market is there, but no one in the world seems to be doing it.
Maybe there's a reason why, maybe they just haven't thought to exolore it.
But I think it's worth a punt.

No direct experience but 2 of my kids did degrees in Product Design and one now a Design Engineer so have some thoughts about it which may or may not help.
First, have a chat with an IP lawyer to see what you can do to protect your idea in a way that isn't going to cost you a fortune.
How developed is your idea? Do you have it in some sort of design software like Solidworks or sketches, descriptions?
There are product design consultancies that can assist to develop to various levels such as 3D print some proptypes, advise on materials and legislation which will need to be complied with particularly for a toy. If you do get it to a point where it looks like a winner then they will be able to assist in finding a suitable manufacturer and should have worldwide contacts they can use. They may also be able to assist with strategy such as licencing to an established company, marketing, distribution etc.
I know from talking to my daughter that some manufacturers just do that-they want the files that drive their machines and exact specs for all aspects of the products and some do offer limited technical advice/support. And even with all this she has still had pallets of products delivered from China which have gone from the ship, to the warehouse and from there to the tip.
Good luck and I hope you make millions.
