SRS Light after refitting seatbelt
Discussion
Removed my driver's side seatbelt to send it for re-webbing (it was fraying). When I moved the car in/out of the garage without the belt fitted I got a SRS message. I expected this to go once I refitted it.
I have disconnected the battery for 15 mins but still there.
I never removed the seat, I just unbolted it and moved it as far forward as I could and this worked fine. I've not bolted the seat back on yet but all the connections are still in place - I never touched them.
Any ideas?
Do I have to start the car so many times for a code to clear?
I have read in another thread that it could be a 'seat track position sensor'. Would this be an issue if the seat was not yet bolted in?
Cheers

This is pretty standard behaviour across marques. Keep battery disconnected while disconnecting anything to do with airbags or pre-tensioners and only reconnect battery when everything is buttoned up. Otherwise you will trigger an SRS fault in the system that cannot be reset by disconnecting the battery. Better scantools will have the ability to reset the system, or you can buy didicated SRS service tools that can do it. But ordinary scantools can't touch the SRS reset.
I had the SRS warning come up on my Vantage a few months ago. Thought it might be the seat position sensor as I had moved the seat back/forth completely during cleaning before winter layup. Tried the simple thing first, and moved the seat back/forth again and I disconnected and reconnected the cable under the seat and it went away.

Did you disconnect the battery when you disconnected and reconnected the cable? That's a good point Mark.
I disconnected the battery to take everything out, then reconnected it to move the car into the garage. Today I got it out of the garage but refitted the belt without disconnecting the battery - I forgot.
Should I do it again with the battery disconnected?

I had the exact same issue on my 2007 P3 Volvo V70 - different car; same electrical architecture. I'd had the dash apart to fit a new HVAC fan and, before I buttoned it all up, wanted to confirm the fan was working. I reconnected all of the airbags but forgot the SRS isolation switch on the passenger side - result? SRS warning light. I tried all configurations of battery disconnect; key on; key off; battery reconnect; roll up left trouser leg; leave battery off for 15 minutes; sacrifice a chicken to the airbag god "Inflator", etc. but in the end the only thing that fixed it was a trip to a Volvo MD who hooked it up to their diagnostics, cleared it and charged me 45 minutes (don't ask).I have disconnected the battery for 15 mins but still there.

So AFAIK you need AMDS or an OBD tool that can delete the code and tell the SRS system that all is well. There's nothing you can do to the car itself that will fix the SRS nervous breakdown.

Similarly we have a Ford Focus that used to regularly show an SRS warning, especially if you moved the seat. The problem was the seat connector. With the battery disconnected I sprayed the plug pins with contact cleaner (Isopropyl alcohol) and plugged and unplugged it a few times to dislodge any corrosion or debris.
The light hasn't come back on since.
So I need this?

Will be cheaper than a diagnostic at AM!

Before you buy one ask them if it will clear SRS codes once the problem has been fixed https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FXNT530AM.html

nope, just did the cable and made sure it was seated correctly....I thought it might have got caught and tugged slightly when I moved the seat back n forth for cleaningI do have a Foxwell OBD box with AM software but didnt need to use it this time

Should do, it's the one shown in the video above.
Yep thats what ive been using for many year on my Vantages. Recently I upgraded it with Land Rover software too when I had a strange issue on my Range Rover sport. Really convenient to do and only £80 to add it, downloaded over wi-fi once purchased from Gendan. You are more than welcome to call by for a SRS fault reset, im about 1 hr 40mins NE of you, in NE Notts, however with the current price of petrol you probably better off buying a NT530 for future use
