Hornet CB1000 issues!
Discussion
Just out of interest as I've lost all patience with Honda UK can I see how other owners have done with these bikes and their oil consumption issues amongst others as I've got precisely nowhere and the bike has now been binned off.
Oil consumption is off the scale, anywhere up to a litre per 1k miles, apparently just ride it and stop into your local Honda dealer where they will monitor it, then top up as necessary is the fix! I can't be ar5ed to do this round trip of 90 miles when I'm quite capable of doing this myself and if it is low then I'll need to top up before riding over, a complete nonsense.
The LAF sensor interfering with the drive train, not the end of the world but another trip to the dealer.
Oil leaks from the engine and gear pivots coming loose, just pop over again!
Petrol line fault, another incoming recall as there are more than one of these that has pi55ed fuel out whilst riding, not ideal.
Poor, soft paint, unable to use any sort of tail pack as it'll end up scratched and rubbed through before the end of your road!.
Either way, I've been fobbed off by Honda UK for 9 months when I finally bit the bullet, chopped it in and took the proverbial kick in the plums they had no interest in any form of goodwill, insisting the bike was fit for purpose! So fit for purpose that they're off sale now worldwide whilst they decide what to do with these f3cked motors.
A replacement engine isn't going to happen, no buy backs and a fix is on its way at the end of the year...engine out, back to Honda, new block, pistons, rings etc, your guess is as good as mine because Honda UK won't say.
Anyhow to finish my small rant off, if you have one, I'd get it gone asap and don't whatever you do be tempted by the price of a new one, it's reflected in the quality.

If Honda don’t front up and deal with this properly it has potential to be their Ratner moment in the UK at least.
People don’t buy Hondas because they are necessarily the best. They buy them because they are good enough, won’t cause any trouble and be easy to sell on. The Hornet has failed in that respect.
The MCN test bike was run 2l low on oil by their own admission due to high oil consumption. Who’s going to be buying a used one?
It’s pretty clear Honda have found the bottom of the barrel.

Exactly this! I felt bad chopping it in, but I've taken a lot of the pain and it's now a v cheap bike but still fundamentally flawed. Used market is only going one way and Honda will be losing loyal and new customers alike.People don t buy Hondas because they are necessarily the best.
