Adjusting this uPVC door flag hinge

Our creaking conservatory that probably dates back to the 1980s is getting some much needed TLC.

I am struggling to open or close a door as it is dragging at the bottom. I thought I would try and adjust the hinges, but I am stumped already.

I pulled the cap off the hinge (it turned to dust and will not be going back on!) expecting to see a place for an Allen key, but no.

On the inside of the hinge IS a tiny Allen screw adjuster but I cannot see how that could adjust height/drop.

Any ideas please, assuming this is actually adjustable. Thanks.

The adjustment is on the door itself - behind that "flap" where the hinge attaches to the door. Take that off (looks like it goes up or down), and there will likely be adjustment screws behind there.

Thank you. It looks like it does go up or down. Not sure how to budge it. May be a plastic trim tool?

Well, definitely the bottom. Furthest from the hinge. There is a metal plate in the door frame that appears to be just catching it.

So....I got the cover off, but still none the wiser.

The screws just seem to fix the hinge to the door with no adjustment.


The end parts of the hinge do not accept a screwdriver or Allen key.

Maybe they are not adjustable, but that would have initially required very accurate alignment.



Perhaps I am missing something?

I can feel that the door, whilst heavy, will lift off the hinges. Is it case of adding shims instead?

If the bottom corner furthest from the hinge is just touching the floor. Then you can adjust this by re packing the glass. You will need a glazing wedge and some packers.

Like this but you need to pack the top corner down more which will lift the door by a few mm.

It sounds as if the top hinge needs moving in (towards the frame), as opposed to both hinges needing to go up. But how you do it, I have no idea!
