A colleague is considering entering sprints/hillclimbs next year with his 1974 MG, I know there is some form of handicap/target time system which applies to the A7 class bit can't explain it to him as I haven't a clue how it works.

Can anyone (stiglet ??) explain the system to me ?

Murray,

I think JP's away for the tattie holidays. You might want to bump this back to the top in a while.

Cheers,

Eric

Short answer – no.

I remember it being explained that they had to declare a time and were awarded points depending on how close they were to their prediction. Saying that, it just seems to be a case of who’s fastest.

Had a trawl through both sets of championship regs but nothing obvious.

Hi guys - 'back from rainy Mallorca now

Right....

SPRINTS - No Handicap - Fastest in class wins

HILLS - After the practice runs each driver nominates the time he'll do in the timed runs and the closest to his nominated time (AS A PERCENTAGE THEREOF) wins. This formula is supposed to make it a level playing field but it actually favours the slower cars

If, for example the driver of quickish car (let's say a Lotus 7) nominates 33.50 at Fintray and does 33.60 he'll be well beaten by , for example, a Morris Cooper that nominates 41.30 and does 41.40. So if the quickest car wins from time to time it's obviously a complete fluke or the driver is consistently bad!!!!!

Rgds to all

Cheers John

Not sure that info will encourage him to enter his MGB, but I will keep the pressure on him anyway.

Hope you enjoyed your holiday

Yes -I would encourage your colleague to come along and have a go at Fintray anyway.

The handicap system is not perfect but, looking on the bright side, if you nominate a "do-able" time you've got a win-win situation.

If you come close to your time you're pleased coz you've got the chance of a "gong" and if you do better then you're pleased coz.....you've done better!

Plus the sport could use as many newcomers as possible

Holiday - "The rain in Spain is mainly in ...October"
However found a pleasurable alternative to sitting on the beach.....

Cheers

JP
