Bought a car earlier in the year which is decent and practical but noticed more corrosion than I think is acceptable in the shock turrets, it's only visible on a ramp or a jack with the front wheel removed so I'd like to get rid of it, possibly by part exchanging it with a trader. The 'new' car will be of similar vintage and price point, anything sus from the traders POV or should I consider selling it privately

I would question why and look a little harder at the part ex, the way you will be looking a little harder at the shock turrets.

How bad is it, surely cleaning , treating and painting will be cheaper and less time consuming than searching for another without it that may turn out to be a lemon.

I'd have to check. Why do you ask?

If the plate starts with an S, I would be avoiding that car.

Salt air corrosion. Besides being stood on a quayside if it was imported it may've been registered next to a coastal address. The milder climate down south may mean less salt on the roads than Scotland, Northern Ireland or Northern England.

Even if it were to happen you’d be losing probably 10-20% of the value for a bit of surface rust? Just get it treated

That's my thought, 20% seems light tbh. Alarm bells as to why a like for like will see to that.

It's not the BYD from Atlantis.

So a trader would be thinking why on earth are you part-exchanging the same car that you are looking to replace it with and you've owned your one for less than 4 months - big alarm bells unless you can convince them that you like it so much that you are after one with very little miles...

Sell it to WBAC, a dealer will base their price similar to WBAC, then you are a cash buyer.
