Hi, I have just had a look at the Model Y and thought it was worth exploring further. I'm new to EVs, Tesla, leasing etc so have lots of questions..

A Model Y Premium All-wheel drive on a 36 month business lease is £641 exc VAT. 3 Months initial and 12k miles/yr.

1/ Is it worth shopping around to see if I can get it via a third party leasing company any cheaper, or is buying direct through Tesla best?

2/ Does the lease include road tax?

3/ Is there any benefit to keeping the vehicle list price (P11D) under £50k? (If so I would look at the 2 wheel drive version)

4/ Charging. I would need to buy a home charger - is the Tesla branded one best, or an alternative?

5/ Limited company, VAT registered, 2 directors. 20% tax bracket. Aside from asking my accountant, is there a good website that can crunch the numbers to show what the cost to both the company and personal tax payer (me) would be?

I'm sure there will be more questions biggrin but just quickly trying to understand the costs and benefits of a Tesla over a diesel commercial vehicle.

Thanks!

As I'm not in the UK, I can't answer most of your questions.

Regarding the home charger, Tesla's is a good one, though I've also read good things regarding Octopus' offerings in the UK, and I don't know whether Tesla's charger is compatible with those....

Regarding EV vs. diesel - EVs are less expensive to run and far better to drive than diesels. (we own both EVs and an older diesel)

Re the VAT - note if its leased by a company and used for any personal use, you can only claim back 50% of the VAT. This makes the monthly 10% more than you may be expecting.

On the charger - see what chargers and deals you energy company has. Ohme charger works well with Octopus for instance but it was cheaper for me to source the charger and have a local sparky install it.

Off topic - why a Tesla? there must be better options in this day and age

Thanks, yes I think I read somewhere that the Tesla charger isn't compatible with the '7p'? night tariff. I guess I would need to look into which charger is best for Tesla>Octopus>cheapest electric

Thanks, yes good point re 50% vat reclaim. I had forgot that.

Why Tesla? I just fancy trying one. I sat in a Y at the weekend and thought it seemed a much better car than the first Teslas and probably the best charging network. It has some nice features and I don't think the Y looks too bad, but let's be honest - I don't think many EVs look particularly fantastic unless spending much more.

I'd still pick a Model Y over those, some great lease deals too, more so on Model 3.

Each to his own. I really disliked the Tesla and found all of the above preferable, although the Polestar could be a bit irritating. Plus none of the others involve giving my money to Musk

I do agree about Musk, wish he'd do one.

It doesn t matter what charger you use because Octopus talks directly to your Tesla to control smart charging.

Ok thanks, that's good to know. I spoke to someone yesterday re chargers and he generally recommends the Hypervolt Home Pro 3 (£1200 fitted).

I also test drove a Y AWD yesterday and have to say it was much better than I expected. That one-pedal driving thing is very impressive.

The Juniper Model Y is hard to fault. Best all-round EV for the money. We have a Zappi charger which is good and compatible with everything. But like I said, the Tesla takes care of smart charging via Octopus. The charger is just set to dumb mode ie always on.

There are no “better” options. Just different choices.
