E63S (W213, 2017)
Discussion
I thought I would post a review of my E63S Saloon after 18m of ownership.
Bit about my car buying for reference - I like fast, characterful cars and often with a degree of practicality given need for only one car….so default is saloons, SUVs or GTs.
In the last 3 years the main steeds have been an Alfa Stelvio QF, Audi S8 (V8 TT) and the E63S with a few stop gap cars in between.
Looks:
So, the E63, firstly I think she looks epic in the metallic deep red. I got it Gtech ceramic coated which add to the shine.
Have had quite a few people come over and ask about it, certainly a bit more individual than an M5 of the same era plus, as my friends joke, I could moonlight as an Uber Driver as and when.
Interior / practicality:
Smart and high quality
Intuitive controls
Panoramic sunroof a lovely touch, why do so few M5s have a sunroof
Plenty of space for 5 average people
Decent sized boot
100% reliable aside from a display screen glitch that was replaced under MB warranty
Performance:
Epic, i mean is has 600+ BHP, 0-60 in claimed 3.3 feels about right, certainly no slower. Easily as quick as my old mapped 996 Turbo.
The driving modes make a real difference. From relatively sedate fast saloon to snarling, highly responsive A\B road blaster
Decent degree of customisation - suspension, drivetrain, exhaust ~ all make a noticeable difference
Gearbox (9 speed) is fabulous
Can get near 30mpg on a run, high teens in town though
Negatives
Not many really
Suspension is firm, but not unbearable as some would say (and I live in London)
Annual servicing, I guess expected given performance
Going to change her sometime soon, a few width restrictions have gone up near me and the wife (perhaps me too) would appreciate 360 cam which mine doesn’t have. Perhaps an LCI M5 (2021) (other suggestions welcome)
When it goes the will be remembered as one of the greats, will look at the estate variant if I ever need one.
Happy to answer any Qs.
