Marketing gimmick, imho. They know people aren't going to be driving a CHR+ for a million miles or anywhere close to it. So if you buy a chr+ today and in 9 years time, it's retained 71% capacity for the final year of the warranty, Toyota won't do anything about it.
"The battery warranty is provided through an initial eight years’ manufacturer warranty from the vehicle’s registration date. An additional 12 months’ warranty is included in every qualifying service at an authorised Toyota dealer, to up to 10 years from the vehicle’s registration date. The battery is further guaranteed to retain at least 70 per cent of its original capacity, for up to one million miles or 10 years, whichever comes first, subject to annual Toyota EV health check."

Well Toyota needed to do something to try and regain some lost ground! They really dropped the ball with bringing EV solutions to market so slowly, they've got some serious catching up to do and this warranty will really help those who are new to EVs and a bit scared of the change to jump in. Makes sense.

In 12 months time let’s see how many of these particular cars they will have sold in the UK market.
Personally, I’m not expecting that everybody will cancel their Tesla model 3 or model Y order to get a Toyota EV, but anything is possible.

This all over.Been saying for a while that if manufacturers want to aid the residuals of their BEV cars, this is one step to take. (Even though it's way above what you would have had on ICE).

Corolla is 320/420 alternating for minor / major service. When you consider that includes a 12 month / 10k warranty extension it’s relatively cheap.Lots of land rovers coming in as part exchange, service costs 1k, warranty extension 1k with repairs on top plus huge cost of diesel.
Corolla’s just don’t go wrong, plenty of 300k mile taxi’s locally.
