Total admiration and respect for a man who faced life's viccitudes and overcame challenges to which most men would wither. RIP.

I hope we get a minute silence before the race tomorrow.

What a bloke he was.

Sad that despite a stellar career in Indycar he never really got on with F1, he came into it in a horrid era of grooved tyres and a bit like Damon and Jacques he never really got on with them that well, had a few dabbles earlier aswell that showed promise especially at Lotus.

His later career post accident was insane really, to do what he did. Heard he had an awful accident last few years that is possibly what aided this awful early death, damn shame, a more inspirational figure in sport would be hard to find.

A astonishing example of courage and determination in the face of adversity. He set such an example for others of what can be achieved even in the most trying of circumstances.
Truly one of a kind and a very sad loss.
Rest in peace Alex.

"nothing extraordinary (about me), nothing magical"

I beg to differ in the strongest terms...the term Legend is fully deserved. So sad, no age but what a man.

Damn that's sad.

I remember being early for a meeting so sat in the car listening to a programme on Radio 4 interviewing him about his comeback after the Indycar crash. He was so inspiring, me and my wife agreed to name our son after him when he was born a few weeks later.

Very sad news.

Truly inspiring human. A life well lived.

I wasn’t aware / had forgotten that he’d had another bad accident a few years ago.

.
AIUI, it was carbon brakes that he couldn’t get on with. His success in Indycar coming with steel brakes.

IINM, Williams even put steel brakes on his car for practice in one race in 1999, in an attempt to give him more confidence.

But still, what a man. What an absolute legend.

Genuinely saddened to hear about this. I remember reading an interview with Alex in Motor Sport magazine after success in his second sporting career in handbiking and I was struck by how positive and grateful he was for the opportunities that life had given him, with no hint of bitterness about the difficulties and challenges he’d faced.

He was a class act.

I've got to put one of my favourite moments of his here that many will remember.

I was 13 years old and watching this on Eurosport I think on Sunday evening late at night even though my parents told me to go to bed due to school the next morning.

I remember jumping off the sofa and cheering (a bit too loud!) and was an instant fan of his from then on.

RIP Alex Zanardi.

What a legend!

Ok I’ve lost my legs, I just look for a new challenge.
What a superb example of a determined human being.

^ All of the above.

Most people would be happy to sit in their conservatory and tell stories of how they were once a racing driver.

Alex Zanardi arguably had more success post accident than before.

A truly inspiring human. A great loss.
