Back in 2005 I bought a 4 year old SP1. Loved it. Sold it 3 years later because I moved to Australia and it was the wrong bike for there. Now living in a rural part of Germany, and just bought another SP1. The test ride was amazing, it felt like the 20 years were 2 months.

You can keep your 916s, this is the best looking bike of the past 30 years.

I really like it too, but I do have weird taste in bikes. I have a Ducati 999, which is a little faster and a lot harder to ride slowly. The Ducati is also strange for me, because the frame hits the bone on the inside of my knees on bumpy roads, which is really painful. The SP1 fits me like a glove by comparison. I also have an SRAD 750… my cheap and cheerful sports bike.

I love the looks of these. Supposedly hard riding but imagine that's less of an issue on German tarmac, and hard on fuel. Big, non Harley V Twins do sound epic - enjoy!

That's quite an endorsement.

I've probably got old mags that compared them to the Ducati but being an inexperienced motorcyclist who's only owned three motorcycles I feel equally excited to spot either on the road, and that thrill of seeing them is somehow different for each one.

I saw a silver one being used mid-winter a few years ago, it was an overcast damp week day, not a crisp, sunny winter day.

Is it a bit of an obvious poster hero versus the less obvious hidden depths type thing? It's perhaps a snobby, less obvious, beard stroking pseud thing perhaps?
