Spider wheels - new, used or drive what you've got?
Discussion
I have a mk1 Tuscan with 18" 6-spoke Compomotive wheels in black. They've been refurbished in past, still look good even though I've taken them on and off the car a million times to work on the car. They have the correct offsets, they're strong brutes, heavier than my older Chimaera wheels (sorry I don't have the weights to hand) and the car drives well with them. I did contact Compomotive about the history of these and the director came back to me that they did supply TVR some with wheels in period.
So, I'm pretty happy with them, maybe change the colour as I don't think black suits BUT when I see adverts for Tuscans (or other cars of this age or newer) they almost always have Spiders fitted.
Question is, at some point should I get a set of Spiders for the car? I see plenty second hand ones but that seems to be a lottery in terms of quality. I don't want to waste money. Do people tend to keep a set of whatever quality original Spiders and then when it comes time to sell throw them on to keep the originality?
There is the new option from Motaclan but is ~£2k a sensible spend to keep originality and would they handle any better than my Compomotives?
I don't want to get into colours and aesthetics as that's subjective and down to personal preference but I'd be interested in people's thoughts on originality and is it worth the money to have a set? Thanks.
