Gen 1 Vanquish a nightmare?

I love the Gen 1 Vanquish and to buy one but just watched the Bamford Rose video which is a massive slice of negativity. If you listen to his doom and gloom you would be wiser to buy a Vulcan bomber to run.
Are they a terrible nightmare?
First rule of Vanquish ownership, is not to watch BR videos. Are they a terrible nightmare?
They can be problematic, but it is often a lack of miles, deferred maintenance and a dash of Aston half arsed manufacturing
If you are looking at an early, then check if the crappy wire control unit has been swapped out for the magnetic version. Most well looked after Vanquish will have had this done by now.
Any with a replaced clutch will have the S clutch, which is much more hard wearing.
Brake discs can rattle, did from factory but more annoying than dangerous.
Plus, you must visit V12 Vanquish.com. David can supply new discs at a fraction of the cost and knows everything there is to be known about them. Get him to do your PPI, he probably knows the car and is a guru.

Busy and active group sourcing parts (many are Jag and Ford) and sorting things like clutch refacing at a tenth of the price of a new clutch.
They are friendly and will be able to provide huge assistance plus the forum is full of "how to". Plus, they have David at Q, the other expert indie and "the Wizard". Add in some other serious expertise and it makes running one much more palatable. A sort of homely British Rennlist.
Ignore the comments about gearbox. It is a 2000 automated manual, same as Lambo, 360, M5. It is not a DSC. It is a Tremec T56, so built for hamfisted Yanks. Never drive it in auto
Just a slight lift on change up and mechanical sympathy. Yes, it is a pain in the arse in heavy stop start traffic but twice on the paddles and into neutral and you are good.
Think of it as a 2005 Big Healey - a car that makes you work to enjoy it, but what a car!!!
Ignore Clarkson. He couldn't drive it because in doing so it would have been boring telly and he was a knob.
Get one now. They are ridiculously cheap, especially the much sorted S.
Last of the Newport Pagnell cars. A mix of high tech and Geoff and his mates.
Not many about and once the spares really come in line and the Aston tax is less of an issue, then they will increase in value.
When you do get one, remove the exhaust actuators, plug them up (to keep vacuum - no Fuse 22 here) and enjoy your Vulcan bomber.

Hello Castrol,
Thank you so much for your very informative and balanced view. I’m defiantly on the hunt with this sage like advice in my head. My gut feeling was that he was scaring everybody and helping to keep the price low which is a good thing. I’m buying it to drive it a lot. Thank you once again.

The engine itself is very reliable. A few niggles but fitting a £100 anti spike kit will protect the PTECs (it has two ECUs) and even then, these can be refurbished for about £1,000. The pumps can be sorted for a few hundred quid. Basically, don't go by what Aston would charge - there is a really good ecosystem of support out there.
