Drilling vine eyes - mortar or brick?

I'd like to grow a climbing rose up the front of my house and have decided on using vine eyes rather than trellis.

Only question is, do I drill into mortar or into the brick?

The house is fairly new, so the mortar is strong. Mortar is my preference, as it should be easier to fill the holes should I ever need to, but wondering if anyone had any better ideas/experience with this.

I always drill mortar if I can , because my house is made of Accrington NORI bricks
With modern bricks the mortar is probably stronger than the bricks
With good plugs it should grip just aswell
