I've decided its time to bite the bullet and invest in some proper data storage rather than my PC hardrive - what I'd like is an external system which is fast and offers 250GB+ expandable with easy backup. Ideally I'd like to pair this up with something a bit more portable with maybe 10GB storage. Price? Little as possible (naturally ;)) but I'll pay what it takes to get a good reliable future proof system. Any recommendation of ebay vendors etc. appreciated.

I have one of these up for grabs. It's the 40 gig model FTX40. Looking for £225 inc Special Delivery. Only used a few times and is in great nick. Only selling because I have an Archos AV400

That's exactly what I got. Great piece of kit. Took it to France with me too. Really well made and absolutely no setup required, other than the initial formatting obviously.

Thumbs up from me

future proof

No such thing, I'm afraid. Its just a phrase touted by PC manufacturers to persuade you to buy the current top-of-the-line kit (which will be obsolete in 6 months)

For your needs, I guess the only thing you can do is guesstimate your storage needs for, say, the next year and then make sure you buy something with at least double or triple that capacity.
