timber ornament care

cut down tree as blocking view from summerhouse and one of the branches split leaving a lovely oval piece ,what would be best to put on to preserve the wood -it will be put in summerhouse after treated

I did some tests on a nice chunk of elm last year and found that this gave a nice finish without darkening the wood: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rustins-Quick-Drying-Poly... They do satin and gloss too.

If you want to darken it try yacht varnish.
