I ask because I woke up yesturday morning with a foot that felt bruised as though id trodden on a plug or something similar. To the best of my knowledge (and I wasn't drunk, nor do I sleepwalk!) I did not physically hurt it the day before.

Since this morning the pain has become worse, it is an aching, bruised feeling that goes up the back of my leg as far as my bum. It is excrutiating to walk on and hurts a lot to bend my toes.

Any ideas from the medically minded PHers as to what it may be. It is my right foot which makes flexing the throttle hard to to do!!

If it goes all the way up your leg then it sounds like a trapped nerve. If you can't bend your toes then it seems similar to cramp which could also be a sign of a trapped nerve. It's probably the leg/foot equivalent of a stiff neck. Hopefully it will ease after a couple of days.

If it's really painful I'd suggest going to see your doc. Something like that sound like it needs looking at and possibly a blood test to rule out gout.

Unusual for someone of your age to get it then. Just with sudden onset of pain overnight.
Could be a variety of things though.

I don't think its gout, reason, rapid onset and sounds like it involves the whole leg, not just the joints, but without seeing it and a blood test I could be wrong.

Does however sound like a trapped nerve, possibly sciatica (spelling sorry). Best get it check out by a doctor.

Have you checked your foot to make sure there are no small holes. Daft as it sounds, could you have stepped on a needle or something?

Yeah I had a look over it because infection was my first thought, seems to be ok.

As it seems likely its a trapped nerve will it just sort its self out or is a doctor necessary?

'Make way please, make way,
I'm just like a doctor!'

"and cough, thank you."

Now let me see, right,
well you have what we doctors like to call,

.....Leg falling off itis'

I suggest,

Take a Teeeeeny bit more water with it,
Take more exercise, less PlayStation, obviously,
and where a Dickie bow to the pub.
There that should do it, good day.
