Hi folks,

Had a lovely test drive of a 718 Cayman 4.0 GTS today at Porsche Glasgow with the very helpful Charlie showing me the ropes.

I’d just jumped out of an Alpine A110 GTS and I’m left with a very tricky decision to make.

My only real gripe is, that at 6’4” with a bad back, the cabin felt a bit short. To get my legs happy, I needed the seat tilted bolt upright, but to get a happy back angle, I needed to come forward a fair amount which then left my legs at an awkward angle.

This was with the 2 way adjustable standard seats. I sat in a spyder RS with the carbon buckets and felt like I was ever so slightly further back but not sure if it was an illusion.

Has anybody fitted aftermarket seats?? Alternatively, is the big plastic/aluminium seat back removable??

I feel like I only need an inch or two to be satisfied

Not sure if this helps (probably not), but I have an A110 with the bucket seats and a 718 Spyder with the 4-way adjustable seats. I'd say there is probably a bit more space in the 718 but the seats and seating position in the Alpine are better

Not sure if it’s exactly the same issue that the 718 Boxster has but I thought this was interesting..

I am 6'1" in a Cayman 987 which might be smaller than the 718 I am not 100% sure though, when I first got the car I felt the same as you describe, but I found a way to get more room.

Tilt the seat-back forward then push the seat back hard with your feet using the brake and foot rest to get max travel, then tilt back the seat-back again till you hear the motor strain a little.

Result max leg room and max rear tilt.

That is interesting. An extra 2” of legroom in the 4 cylinder vs the 4.0 flat 6.

Bugger. I really liked that engine note

I did something similar in the car I test drove but I was wary of breaking something as I tilted it back and heard a noise

I really enjoyed the A110, was genuinely surprised how well it handled. The engine is just a little lacklustre compared to the 4.0

Handling wise, there’s really not a lot in it, if anything the Alpine had the edge due to the lower weight

That’s unfortunate. Maybe you could try a 981 S, might be better?

The YouTuber (PetrolPed) subsequently put out a correction video to say he’d made a mistake and the 718 4.0 and 2.5 cabins are exactly the same size.

Did he explain how his seating position was so different?

Before you write it off as an option, check out a car with the 18x way sports adjustable... My partner & I tried both the buckets and standard seats and hated them (she has back problems too). As soon as we sat in the 18x way adjustable, we were sold and I bought a GT4 on the back of it.
