Three Women Dead in Brighton

Three women pulled from the sea. Truly tragic for all involved. Not much info at the moment, not even next of kin informed. My Daughter graduated from Sussex Uni last year and is in Brighton at the moment so I know it quite well.

My first thought is that perhaps they're foreign.

They have now been identified and next of kin informed

There was a student night at a nightclub on the esplanade which finished at 4am, one theory is they went for a paddle after and got into difficulty before the alarm was raised after 5am

FWIW I didn't read that as suggesting they wouldn't be. More not knowing the lay of the land of a British Coast where people can get into bother quite easily.

Really? It doesn t sound an unreasonable thought. When I saw the headline yesterday I wondered if they were from an unsuccessful channel crossing. There have been incidents of foreign born swimming groups unused to local conditions getting into difficulty. A number of bodies together being such an unusual event otherwise.

Or swimming proficiency, which is shocking in some countries.

Either way truly horrendous for those involved.

That certainly sounds the most likely. The beach is odd down at that bit and shelves away quite quickly once you're in the water.

I meant because at that point no families had reported missing people, which made sense to me if the families were abroad.

That’s how I read it. A lot of people don’t realise how steep pebble beaches drop off and how strong the currents can be along there. As someone who grew up down there it was a fairly regular occurrence people going in and not coming out. The pier to the marina is quite the distance, shows how strong the longshore current is.

That s how I read it. A lot of people don t realise how steep pebble beaches drop off and how strong the currents can be along there. As someone who grew up down there it was a fairly regular occurrence people going in and not coming out. The pier to the marina is quite the distance, shows how strong the longshore current is.

Plus the bars and nightclubs under the promanade, when I was at Uni there a few times people suggested a paddle at 3am after a good night. Thankfully we were lucky and stayed safe.

Fair. I’m overly cynical about the far right on here I think.

As it happens, sounds as if they were young students from the uni who made tragically poor choices.
