Has anyone any experience of battery operated electric blinds - any recommendations for supply and fit London area? They look a lot simpler than trying to wire into the mains.

I’m thinking of something like - https://shadeandstory.co.uk/bella-modesty-electric...

Thanks!

We have battery powered blinds in the living room and for the bedroom gable. They have a solar charger hidden from view, they have only being in for about 12 months no issues so far, but long term I have no idea how long battery will hold out.

We have a pair of battery Roman blinds in the high windows on our stairwell, batteries tend to last around 3 months on a charge but they are quite long and heavy blinds.

I have 6 battery powered roller blinds in my living room, they work off a Somfy controller. Despite daily use I only need to charge them about once every 6 months.

I have ones you can plug in and charge. They need charging once every 6 months - they’re in bedrooms so sometimes don’t go up and down in a day but are used fairly frequently.

One is a 3.8m span, still doesn’t seem to need charging all that often! You can also replace the motor / drive / battery unit.

So yes, would recommend

I have about 25 from Powered Blinds all Somfy powered batteries and like others have said need charging about every 6 months. However I think Powered Blinds went bust and have now been resurrected under the same name. Short cuts set up on my phone for all open/close etc and different configurations. Ad hoc timers for when on holiday. It's a Tahoma hub that runs the system, just needs an internet connection.

Had one that decided to wind itself up and brake the internal workings, that when I found out Powered Blinds had gone but there are many stockists of Somfy blinds/tech.

Measured/ordered and fitted myself (5 years ago) just need the time to do it, or get the expert in like the offer in an earlier post.

A quick update on this question I raised last month.

After some research I eventually went with Andy - sjc above - and had 3 blinds installed last week. Service was great from the start, fitters very competent and I’m very pleased with the new remote control blinds I now have. Price was very reasonable too- would happily use again and would definitely recommend Thornwood Blinds.

Very nice to meet you Noel, many thanks for the order and glad you’re happy with the result!

I personally have my butler actuate my blinds manually. His white gloves ensure the bespoke cedarwood blind-pulls remain unmarked.

Kind regards
