I'm not sure if this is a mental question or not, but is it possible to find out which trains ran which route in the past, specifically back to the year 2000? Are things like that recorded?

Ask the question. No doubt someone can tell you. Do you mean types or specific class numbers?

Thanks for the reply, Rich. In short, I joined the RAF aged 16 on 20 Sep 2000 and my Dad waved me off from Platform 9, York station whereupon my life started to take its course.

I remember it was a GNER train, but can't remember whether it was a Class 43 125, or a Class 91 225. I was wondering if things like that are recorded, which train number ran which route etc

Thanks Rich. My journey was York - Kings Cross, it left sometime around 0700 from Platform 9.

I was pondering this the other day as I stood on the same platform, waiting to catch an LNER Azuma to Aberdeen, and reflecting how my adult life began on the same platform and it was that train journey to Kings Cross - amongst other things - that led me to where I am today.

Yep could have been either depending on if the train was due to stop in Edinburgh or continue on beyond the electrification to Aberdeen.

Your train might have been the flying Scotsman as those timing would about fit.
It leaves Edinburgh usually at 5-5 30am.

It could well have been then, yes. I have a feeling it was a 225.

Different interiors. The 225 is narrower than a 125 as it was designed to tilt. Any help?

I suspect a 225 because at that time in the morning it wouldn’t have needed to be diesel powered as it wouldn’t have come from north of Edinburgh. Ex-BR employee and ex-York resident quals - but it’s only a strong guess.

It's a great pointer, thank you. I can't really remember what the interior looked like.

I've got no recollection of either type unfortunately.

Thank you for the insider view, so to speak. As I say, I have a feeling it was a 225 but I'm not 100% positive.

Thanks again to everyone who commented, it's appreciated.
