My son and I decided to go to the Spa classic with a friend then head over to the ring seeing as its a bank holiday and half term.
We figured we could take our bikes with us and go for a couple of rides around both areas. So I had to work out to carry a pair of bikes on a Z4.
Then... we got to the 'ring tonight and our Airbnb host asked if we were riding the bikes on the track. 'Oh we'd love to but we were just thinking we would ride around the outside tomorrow'.
Then he showed us that the track was open tonight from 7pm for a cycling event!
So we strapped a couple of head torches to the bikes (german rule even though there was still blazing sunshine) and headed off for a lap on a pair of gravel bikes!
The scariest moment of my life was following my 12 year old down foxhole doing silly speed on knobblies but he's been racing for 10 years and knows what he's doing and he was so happy afterwards.

There were a few stops along the way and a walk up hohe acht so we came in at around 1hour 30mins 😁
The next day we spent the whole day cycling around the outside on gravel tracks and stopping for photos, picnics and a puncture... that took 5 hours 🤣

Looks fun!

You should sign up for this... https://radamring.de/en/disciplines/24h-bike-race/

I'd not realised there was 560m of climbing per full lap.

I've actually done RAR twice before.
Both as a solo in a very relaxed way, and im hoping to do it again next year after a few years off the bike.
My son was saying he'd like to ride the actual track on the way, so we were discussing him doing RAR next year.
Surprisingly he has said he definitely wants to do it now, but I've said he has to be able to ride a lap without walking to do that.
So on saturday he wants to continue his training by cycling to a bbq at our friend's house 30 miles away

I did a lap once, in 2008, after the N24. Many Warsteiners had been consumed. It was 10pm and pitch black, I had a crap headtorch and a desire for adventure. I only crashed once, at the Karussell, which resulted in costly physio.

I would probably not recommend that approach.

Thats not too bad, you wouldn't be going too fast at the karussel.
We also found that cycling from Adenau to Pistenklause Pizzeria is 100% uphill for about 10km, but the route back after some brave juice is awesome!

Yes. I was camping at Breidscheid. The uphill was sobering, but being a good boyscout I was prepared and had brought some Warsteiners with me. The added refreshments no doubt contributed to the crash and also meant a bit of broken glass to clean out of my rucksack. Good times.
