Plastering ensuite ceilings.
Discussion
Hi all
We are at the point of having the bedrooms plastered. We have quoted to get the ensuite ceilings done, I just need to fit lighting and extractor points.
I am now doubting having the ensuites done since they are only at 1st fix.
Plumbing is terminated behind plaster. No sinks, shower trays or concealed shower mixers installed
When is the right time to plaster. Now or leave it to fit the concealed shower mixer and tray in place?
Thanks

Our had a skim over because of a different lighting arrangement, holes filled in and new holes made, the plasterer had the chance to do his job without the shower screen being in his way, tray was down already, but no cabinet or sinks fitted, and the loo was about the very last thing.
There's no value in plastering behind tiles or shower wallboards, cupboards, mirrors etc.
Not sure it's even worthwhile on a ceiling if the boarding has been done nicely.
I didn't realise this place hadn't been skimmed until I started changing light s etc.
Jointed plaster board looking fine after 25 years or so.

Tape & joint gives a perfectly good surface on a taper edge board, in theory better than skimming for less effort and skill. Skimming is an option but it certainly isn't necessary if the boarding was any good. Not sure it's even worthwhile on a ceiling if the boarding has been done nicely.

You rarely want to tile onto a skimmed surface, it just doesn't have the load capacity.
Only place I'm doing any skimming with my weekend projects is onto existing solid walls where it's the only option to refinish them. That's after grinding out the massive variation the original person created - it's smooth-ish but it's a million miles away from flat.
Anyway yes sort the ceilings before fit out, lot easier to work and easier to clean.
