My current provider offers the Easee home charger. It looks quite good.

However Ohme seems to be highly regarded.

Is it worth getting the Ohme independently fitted, or is the Easee good enough?

There s about a £100 uplift for the Ohme.

I ll probably go for untethered for whichever I choose.

I've had the Easee One home charger for over 3 years. No issues.

Good to hear.

The reviews are good for both chargers, however the Ohme is highlighted to give deeper integration into some energy providers / Tariffs. Is this needed?

Smart tariffs need to be able to directly control the charger or the car.

Octopus Intelligent Go was the best choice for us, so I made sure to get a compatible charger (Zappi).

We're also on Octopus Intelligent Go and it integrates with our Ohme faultlessly. 2 years without issue. Whichever one you go with, just make sure it works with the supplier you intend to use.

Edited to add - we went with tethered and I regret it, so OP you're making the right choice in that regard.

I’m likely to move to Octopus. I see they do two tariffs, Go and Intelligent Go. It says the Intelligent Go requires the Ohme Charger, however on their site it says my car isn’t compatible. I assumed the charger took care of the compatibility? Not a biggie as i will be changing my car early next year.

With regard the charger, I think the non tethered just looks cleaner and on the Easee you can lock any lead to make it tethered anyway. Does the Ohme ePod do that

Zappi looks good, but it’s either the incumbent Ohme or 3rd party Ohme to keep it simple.

They prefer the car to be linked and not the charger as it gives less scope for people 'playing games' but if the car isn't compatible and the charger is then you can still join IOG.

I went for the Zappi because:

It works with Intelligent Go
It uses WiFi or ethernet, not the mobile network.

Our cars (Kia EV3 and Hyundai Inster) aren't compatible with IOG, so a compatible charger is essential - you need one or the other.

Our mobile signal is practically non-existant, so wifi or ethernet connectivity was essential.

At the time, Zappi was the best (if not the only) option. I think there's a wider choice for IOG now?
Zappi was also the preferred make of our chosen installer - fitted at the same time as our heat pump. Bonus, it works with Home Assistant.

We opted for untethered. The cables that came with the cars stay inside the cars, and I just bought a 10m cable that can reach the whole of the driveway (no shuffling cars around) and is permanently plugged in.

Good info, thankyou.

Did you go with your nominated energy supplier installer?

No, I went for a local company on personal recommendation. Slightly more expensive than Octopus, but they did it exactly how I wanted (cable routing etc.).

I’ve got an Easee One, I’m now on my 4th unit, swapped out under warranty each year for a thermal issue. They overheat and throttle the charge rate significantly (from 7.4 kW down to 4–5 kW). Going through the warranty process again now, which is a pain. This is well documented in the Facebook group. If you go Easee, go in knowing this could happen.

Had Ohme Epod, Octopus IOG, for nearly 2 years.
Had mine installed by independent, tricky cable run.
Zero problems at all.
In answer to earlier question, the cable can’t be locked into the Ohme. Maybe an aftermarket solution to that..

Ohme Pro and Octopus herd works very well.

Very pleased I went with tethered.

Mine was installed yesterday by Octopus. Installer turned up on time and installed with zero issues in 3.5 hours, doing a neat job and placing the charger/cable routing where I wanted it. I haven't got my EV yet but he walked me through the app and how to use the charger on his own van.

Could possibly have saved a few quid going with an independent but for zero hassle I have no regrets going with Octopus.

Thats a shame. Still leaning towards the Epod though

I didn’t know about the thermal issues. That’s putting me off tbh.

Is there any features that you lose choosing the Ohme ePod over the Pro?

How often do you think you will be charging?

I have the tethered Ohme Pro and as I charge almost daily then getting a cable out to charge and putting a cable away again afterwards would be a real hassle, particularly in the winter when it is wet and cold.

Whereas my neighbours have an Ohme ePod and are happy getting a cable out to charge because they only do so every week or so, and only when the weather is dry.
