Intermittent metallic grinding noise
Discussion
I’ve got an intermittent grinding noise coming from (I think) the NSF wheel on my car.
Weirdly, it seems to come and go.
Sometimes it sounds like a metallic grinding noise, like metal rubbing on metal, sometimes it’s more of a ticking that rises and falls with wheel speed. Sometimes it disappears altogether. It doesn’t seem to get louder or quieter with steering lock.
My first thought was debris lodged somewhere, but I’ve had the wheel off and everything looks fine.
I’m stumped! Any thoughts?

Perhaps it isn't coming from the corner you assume. Ideally, you'd get somebody to listen from outside the car while the problem is happening. Your idea of something trapped between the caliper/disc does seem like the most likely explanation. If it's something else then presumably you have got metal-to-metal wear somewhere and that ought to make itself obvious if you leave it long enough.
Just a thought, how old are the brake pads
Over the last couple of weeks my son's Hyundai has suffered an intermittent high pitched noise, so high pitched my wife and I couldn't hear it, but a 20 year could. Ended up with him driving up the road with me in the back with my head out of the window!
Turns out, one of the brake pads was starting to disintegrate, bits getting trapped between pad and disc.
