2018 F55 Cooper - a bit nore noise?
Discussion
I'm still loving the Cooper after a year of ownership. As I mentioned in another thread when I got the car, only issue is a lack of sparkle, engine noise is almost non-existent and doesn't suit the character of the car. I'm after a quick fix, I don't want the expense of a whole new exhaust system as that would be overkill for me. I don't want anything too boy racer loud or that drones, I only want a bit more volume and a raspy exhaust note. Can anyone summarise what the best options would be? I've read about resonator pipes, would one of those be any good? I've been on youtube and don't mind the pops and bangs so much so long as they're not tooooo loud ...
My 2p.
A resonator is a "box" as in what many call a silencer in the mid-section of the exhaust, you will already have one (all-be-it a manufacturers original one)
"Pops & bangs" would need to be "mapped in" to the ECU, they do not come with an exhaust in any way shape or form, although if they are there but quiet obviously an exhaust change could make them sound more obvious.
Pretty much your only option is an aftermarket exhaust, which you say you don't want.
An aftermarket exhaust will have a resonator which allows more noise through or even possibly no resonator at all, which would possibly be much louder.

Thanks for explaining, yes it s better described as a resonator delete pipe. Would be keen to hear the experiences of anyone that fitted one to their car, where they got it from and if it was any good etc
To be pedantic a non-resonated mid section, but yes.The problem with doing just one part is that the fit to that in front and that behind is dependant on the dimensions of the mid-section being perfect.
Although you don't want to you would probably be better off going for a full exhaust from a quality manufacturer, others may have specific experiences of makes that are good.
ETA.
When I made my r53 into a track day car I simply bought a full system from the JCW which did exactly what you want but as it was an OE system and the engine was the same for both (with only minor internal tweeks) it fitted perfect.
Whether yours & the comparable JCW are the same I don't know.
