Never been a massive fan of tinned tuna, being a bit of a let down compared with the real thing

Just made Adam Byatt's Sardinian Salad

No point taking a picture of mine - Adams isn't a looker and mine was worse. Decided to use some Ortiz tuna. Pricey but really good. I don't now whether it's the fish, the oil or the seasoning. lick

It will be the tuna.

Ortiz White Bonito Tuna Fillets in Olive Oil is very nice, I have that and the other types in the cupboard.

Ive been in Spain with the missus recently, for a woman that detests normal salted anchovies, her new favourite is them in vinegar & oil. A completely different eat.

This is superb but v expensive.

Had it for lunch a lot on Alonissos where it is reasonable given it is processed there.

Mine is the same but was happy to eat them on bread in Sevilla. Superb

There's a chap on instagram (@tinned_fish_reviews) who has got quite a following for, er, doing tinned fish reviews with his dog. It turns out that there is an incredible variety of tinned goods out there. Some of it is obviously absolutely rank, but there's loads that are really interesting a look well worth a go.

Looks like he's on Youtube too if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/@TinnedFishReviews/videos

It will be the tuna. But also the lovely ripe tomato I spy there, and good quality beans.

Beans are cheap enough anyway, so I agree with Adam it's worth getting the good ones.

Now you've done it MC!

We now need reviews of each of the ones consumed so far please biggrin

Are they mostly in oils of some description?

Bugger. I thought Ortiz was the posh stuff. TBF it's a good excuse to branch out and try tinned seafood beyond tuna and mackerel

I used dried, but cooked them with onion, carrot, celery and bay to try and reproduce the posh beans. A bit overdone even on a reduced cooking time but flavour was good.

Ortiz is a great product, There are huge differences in quality within a tin, just be careful not to be seduced by fancy packaging - it may or may not contain a decent fish/dressing.
