P missed out purposely...

I go in for a bag of BAL super flex whatever it is as its medium dry time. Online says 23 quid.

In store they put the price before vat on, thats fine.

"Do you have an account with us"...no

That'll be 34 pounds please.

I leave

In the car I check I can do collection for the same bag at the original 23 quid price....BUT NEED TO WAIT TILL JUNE the 3RD!

How on earth do they make any money as the stuffs all way overpriced and I never see anyone in there.

No, but please set one up for me. Job jobbed.

And if for some reason they say no, swallow the principles of it,,
Tail between legs and back in the store after having a think about how much your time is worth and just pay the extra.

If I recall Topps most definitely have “web exclusive prices” on some items.

On the flip side wait til you realise the difference between Jewson online prices and in store. I think my best is an 80% reduction on web quoted price. Dont ever order from the website and then go and collect! Local branch has told me, it’s effectively a different company.

I've had to deal with a lot of this industry over the last few months and I wouldn't want to be in the trade around it.

Tiling products is one of those things surrounded by random comedy pricing and a lot of 'trade' accounts that exist mostly to give a fat fake discount and (most likely) an inflated customer invoice with the original price.

Doesn't help that so much of the stuff you'd want is heavy or bulky or outsized so unless you're lucky you're either buying locally or paying a fortune for delivery.

I've set up cash trade accounts where I've had to, but it all just looks like a habit everyone has got into when it'd be less effort (and likely bigger sales) to just have flat pricing?

The whole discounted prices thing is a joke and must leak money all over.

It always amazes me how the likes of TT survive. Their mark up on mots of their products must be insane for them to make any money. They do make a reasonable profit each year with the occasional loss but its generally £10M+ profit.

Each time I go into one they are empty, big industrial unit ££,£££s a month to run, 3 or 4 staff just stood around doing nothing.

The tiles they sell must literally cost pence each.

Just count yourself lucky that you're not dealing with the Howdens clown show.

We did see some tiles we liked but at 60 quid a sqm for what they were I had to check if Gold-orcelain existed.

I do a lot of tiling and never go near the place, even though it’s probably the closest tile shop to me. The small indi shops offer much more for less money.

I was going to post similar.
Bought using our builders account. Nothing on the invoice was discounted less than 50%, some items 80% or 90%.
They then took more off the total invoice if it was delivered before month end. My wife who is a very tough negotiator, then went in to pay the bill and got them to throw a fridge in for free.

To be fair to Topps, they deliver free if you spend £300, when we did our bathroom the tiles arrived from them on a pallet via one of the B2B pallet couriers rather than the usual home delivery operators. That probably wouldn’t have been a cheap delivery for what was in that case a £400 order.
