Ok, ok... i'm aware of the 'council sex pond' jokes etc but still considering getting one. However, I feel I may regret this topic biggrin

Looking at getting a Layzspa Helsinki, tbh we have for a while, but the running costs have put us off. However, I've been reading a little but about running it to keep hot during the 'cheap hours' on our Octopus Intelligent Go EV tariff (2330-0530 7p pkw) and it would appear at least, that people are saving a a fair chunk as opposed to running one on a normal tariff.

So my questions:
Have any PHers done the same and you thoughts on it?
What are your monthly running costs for similar?
Are you able to provide an example of previous/pre EV tariff against running it on an EV tariff?

If there is a thread on this then please point me in the direction, I searched but couldn't find one.

TIA.

I do exactly that.

Heat it every night during the cheap hours. If I then want to go in it turn it on a couple of hours before going in as it has typically lost a degree or so.

Used twice a week average £35-£40 a month.

ETA - ours is a proper one not a LazySpa. LazySpa in my experience are nowhere near insulated as well so it could lose 5-6 degrees through the day.

I have an older lay-z-spa Paris and pretty much do what you suggest. I don't really notice the additional electricity because I only run it from about March to October and lose around 3-4 degrees a day with a thermal cover. That works out at about 28p a day running costs if I keep it at 40 degrees plus maybe an hour or two to top it up on the days I'm going to use it.

As the Paris isn't WiFi enabled, I bought a module off eBay which I connected inside the heater egg. This allows me to set schedules to only heat during cheap hours and as I only use it at weekends, i also turn the temperature down to 30 between Sunday and Wednesday which gives further savings.

I reckon in total I am heating for about 20 hours a week at most which works out less than £15 a month including the pre use top ups. Much more economical than a standard tariff.
