Hello all,

As title really, my Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 is starting to become slow and unresponsive so think it is time for a newer phone.

Not interested in the top of the range flagship models so any recommendations for a decent mid range for ideally under £400?

I've got a moto g86 for about half that budget and it's fine. Good battery, waterproof, etc etc.

Go for a Motorola Edge 60 - Pro, Neo or Fusion direct from the Motorola site. They are the previous version, so have a good discount from the Edge 70s.

I bought an Edge 50 Neo last August because it was a small size, my daughter switched from a Pixel 8a to one in December (she kept cracking Pixel screens)

Check the specs out on GSM Arena - https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=138...

CMF Phone 1 (about £200) Nothing Phone 4a (£380) , Google Pixel 9a (£350) and Honor 600 Lite (Currently £349)

All really good phones, doubt you would be disappointed with any of those.

Time things well and you'll be able to get a current Pixel I suspect.

Eg right now a 10a is £500 but with trade in top up of £75...so that'll be £400.

A 10 is £550 with £100 trade in top up. Will end up close to £400.

My kids have these and they're really nice phones. Being current models they'll last ages before the s/w updates stop.

Equivalent Samsung phones (my choice, currently on an S23U) are well ove £600.

The xiaomi/poco phones are pretty good. the poco x7 pro is their mid range from last year thats under £200. has good specs all round in terms of battery/fast charging/camera/oled screen/cpu. MIUI/hyper OS is their version of android. its fairly unobtrusive. i dont notice a huge difference between all the android variations.
i generally replace mines every 3rd gen and they are still fine into their 3rd year

My moto g85 has been with me for a couple of years now, it does everything I need of it. Its the 3rd moto I have had now over the last 12 years or so.

Google are discounting Pixel 10s at the moment in readiness for when the 11 comes out so if your phone is in good condition you should a good deal:
9a: £350
10a: £424
10: £449

A bit over budget but I like my Pixel 9.

I'm a big fan of the Sony Xperia 10 and have had several.

Just bought the VII and am very pleased with it, bang on your budget too at £399

I'd be looking at the Pixel 10 range, 7 years of updates and very well supported.

Thanks all and picked up a Google pixel 9a yesterday and will see how that fares. Already seems a lot faster than my redmi note 12.

Used to get Sony Xperias years ago (from work) and liked everything about them, how do these ones stack up compared to Google pixel and others eg POCO, Motorolas that have on paper better specs eg 6000mAh batteries ?

similar request to OP, so rather than start another thread...... currently have a Samsung A71, think I've had it 5 maybe 6 years, so due for a change. I'm currently topping up the battery at least twice a day.

Looking for a decent mid range phone under £400, closer to £300 the better.

Would like decent RAM 8Gb minimum, 16Gb would be great for performance, decent storage capacity (will whack a 256Gb or higher, SD card in), water proof would be good, a decent battery that lasts a full day without needing charged several times and duel SIM is a must as I have a SIM for work, and another for personal.

thanks!

I'd say 16Gb, dual SIM & SD slot for £400 is pretty unlikely given the recent massive increase in the cost of memory.

My Asus Zenfone was 16/256 and thought I'd notice a difference with the Edge 50 Neo with 8/256 - but don't miss the extra 8Gb.

Use the GSMArena PhoneFinder to find a phone that meets all your criteria. Look at ESIM plus physical SIM as for a dual SIM the 2nd slot might be taken up with the SD Card,

I hadn't realised that there are a couple of Motorola Edge 60 phones with an SD Card.

I can't compare with others but I easily get the advertised 2 days battery life (at least) from mine. I would add I don't play "resource heavy" games though, just general mixed use.
