A couple of weeks ago I planted a clematis. It was doing well, had grown 6 inches and produced its first flower. Today I find this:

The whole thing has gone including the root ball. Some serious digging has occurred. Before I blame the dog (who generally doesn’t do this sort of thing) what could have caused this damage? A few mole hills have appeared in the garden but I’m not sure a mole would do this. No other plants have been affected.

This was taken on 19 April. We built a new planter with sleepers. In that we planted a Nandena on the right, Clematis in the middle with an Azalea in front of it. Then the black lace on the left next to the fir tree.

Muntjac deer eat ours as soon as they flower...keeping them out isn't easy with fencing the whole garden off either.

Mice ate mine, and some lobelia. I knew the mice were there, you could see a run along the back of the raised bed. Little gits
