Caught by average speed cancers but not average

I've had a NIP for exceeding the speed limit.
The camera is designated as an average speed camera and is in on an average speed check road but it hasn't recorded an average, just my speed at that point.
Is that allowed.
I can give more info if the thread requests.
Yes, don't bother, it won't change anything. The camera is designated as an average speed camera and is in on an average speed check road but it hasn't recorded an average, just my speed at that point.

There is no such thing as "camera being designated as an average speed camera", there are frequently spot cameras as well as average cameras.

Does sound a bit odd. I'm out of touch but I don't recall ever hearing of that happening. The camera is designated as an average speed camera and is in on an average speed check road but it hasn't recorded an average, just my speed at that point.

Do you have a pic of the camera?
I am alright Jack said:

That's always been my understanding too. Average speed cams don't need to measure speed. They just need to photograph a car with a time and date stamp. The next average speed cam does the same, and because the distance between them is known, the average speed between the two points can be calculated without having to measure the speed at either camera. At its simplest, paired off ANPR cameras separated by a known distance, and a bit of maths. Eg, google "do any average speed cameras measure speed"
This site lists (as at Dec 25) the various cams in use in England: https://www.whatcar.com/advice/owning/revealed-eve... Can't see one that is both an average speed cam and a spot speed cam.
I am pretty sure I have seen stretches of motorway with hadecs 3 cameras inside a Specs-average speed camera zone though.
So if hypothetically speaking you are stuck in a traffic jam and it’s suddenly clear in an average speed zone you can’t exceed the specified limit or you run the risk of prosecution?
Such as trundling along at 20mph for 1/2 mile then doing 60mph for a 1/2 mile in an average 50mph zone. Whilst the mean average is 50mph.
Average speed cameras could also be median or mode lol (overthinking this - but just stick to 50 is the trick)

If you exceed the stated limit you run the risk of prosecution. There s no average limit; it s an absolute limit. It s just that with average speed cameras enforcement is based on measuring your speed over a longer distance. A fixed camera is still calculating an average; they don t take into account if you are accelerating or braking over the distance within which they clock your speed .

Thanks. I don't have a picture but the camera has a sign on the pylon its on saying "Average speed camera"
The one previous to that covering the route is before I entered the road so I only went past one camera.
No average was or could be taken.
I know I may be clutching at straws but I've pleaded not guilty.
