Guys,

Bearing in mind my Chim spends about 99% of the time outside at the moment, is there anything I should do (or preferably have done, as I like to keep mechanics etc in a job) now that winter is upon us, other than the usual of ensuring there's sufficient coolent/antifreeze in it?

The car was last serviced in August.

Oh, and one more thing, this WaxOyl thing, is it a TVR only thing, or can I get any garage to do it (as I'm very unlikely to do it myself)?

Cheers

You should be able to get Waxoyl from any good motor factor (even Halfords!)
It is sprayed all over the chassis.
I did mine last week (luckily I have access to a pit for this sort of thing), it took me about 1.5 hours.
The front wishbones are also prone to rusting and should be treated with a tough rust resisting paint such as hamerite after first removing any flaky paint and rust, this took me a while to do just one side (about 3hours).
This may give you some idea of how much a garage may charge you. Normal rate per hour X 3 (The TVR factor!)

The battery takes a battering in the winter, and it's a lot of engine to turn over, so probaby worth checking that.

Last Autumn I took the Griff down to my local tyre and exhaust place, luckily only a 10 minute walk away. They're not TVR specialists, sure, but they can bung a car on a ramp, clean the underside and spray waxoyl on as well as anyone else. About £40.

had my chimaera waxolyed at a local garage, £34.

Quote from local dealer, >£100.

Not hard, is it?

So what you're telling us is that neither of them were going to do the job properly!
