Almost dry....

Pleased as punch yesterday to find the driver's footwell dry as a bone ..... only to find the passenger side sopping wet. Seems to be front end only, so take it this could be the battery box securing bolts, or are their any other sluice gates in this area?

Try to work out if the water is coming down from above, in through the door seals or in through the firewall.

If it's recently wet and it's coming down from above you'll probably be able to see it raining down over the heating / cooling system motors and can get to the problem in the engine bay.Gunge around the wiper motor and the reflective sheeting cured it for me, well almost...

I had a non grometed (sp?) hole in the firewall behind the battery. Dead hard to see until I saw the light, so to speak by opening the garage door, filled that in with gunge and now I'm bone dry again on that side.

If you feel round the carpets up to the passenger door then maybe water's coming in that way, I've never had that but gather that's another way for water to get in.

There is a hole where the vent pipe from the battery (so the hydrogen released when cranking does not build up and go bang off the electrics down there)goes through the bulkhead in to the NSF wheel arch. As this is almost behind the wheel, poor sealing would prob let in a lot of water. Mine is well gobbed up with black silicon rubber (does not show up as much as the white bathroom stuff).

Worth a look as easy to rule out/fix

Had similar probs with mine but passenger side sorted thanks to a bit of fettling of the seals. Started long thread at TVRCC about it all and a long saga it has been too! Final result though is that all is dry, except for one tiny drip directly on to my right ankle. Have thrown sealant round everything possible in engine bay, even attended to VIN plates but still every time it rains there is a small puddle right on the heel plate on the carpet or I get a damp right sock.
Am I missing something?

That really sounds like something coming through the Brake reservoir but I am sure you have checked that(read the TVRCC thread) hav eyou looked at where the Wipers are attached, it can come through there if the sealent has gone.
Try Taking the mat out and putting a strong touch in the footwell when its pitch black. Then look in the engine bay,wheel arches etc and see if you can se the light coming through anywhere.

DRY GRIFF! (so far)
Think I found the culprit - some perished sealant around the driver's side bonnet hinge & a bit of rust on the hinge itself. Sealant applied and no water on right ankle yesterday.

Back to my original post, looks as though it was the battery securing bolts. The battery was replaced a couple of months ago, but no sealant around the bolts. Hopefully a liberal application of Sikaflex has done the trick.

Having read the posts since my earlier one about battery vent pipe, I now know of about six more places through which my Griff might leak in future. Not sure if thanks are in order, or not!

PS - lucky it was water in passenger footwell - my battery leaked and ate away about 1" of the wilton carpets. I suspect new floor mat and bulkhead carpet will cost more than the new battery did.
