Do the cheap £100 quid catalytic converters off eBay work? As in, you won’t get error codes, and do they get through mot? Any experiences?

I want to swap out the oem cat on an old Honda jazz before it comes to London for a while, as they are the number one model that tealeafs nick cats off of. I will keep oem for future mot.

Many tend to not last too long.

Perhaps just get one of those cat cage things to save the hassle.

Short answer - no.

Long answer - eBay is a selling platform, not a parts supplier. I think what you mean is, the cheapest non-type approved cats. They will do SOMETHING, for SOME amount of time - but in my experience, not long enough or good enough to be worth the saving over a type-approved cat or even a reasonable secondhand one.

May be ok to fit temporarily for your purpose but many struggle to get through emissions.

He said he is going to keep the original for its MOT.

If it throws up an error code you could probably use one of the o2 sensor extenders. Can you just get a cat delete pipe for a jazz?

Will a non genuine part be enough to keep the scum at bay? I've no idea if they are discerning enough to skip cheap replacement parts... they certainly aren't discerning enough to not unnecessarily chop through expensive exhaust manifolds in my experience...

Yes I believe they look (the jazz has high ground clearance) and if stty ebay one they ignore as they re worthless.

I can get a cat shield (a big metal plate that screws to the 2 chassis rails) for £33 delivered so that is cheapest option, I think I might do that. The aftermarket cat is 80 quid.

Really undecided but I have to do one or the other, doing nothing is not an option :/

The jazz!

Yeah, its tricky. If they ignore the cheap ones then that has to be the way forward.

I guess the danger of putting a shield there is that it then makes them think there's something worth defending. The grinders will likely make short work of anything you put in the way
