Looking for opinions on what is the better car to drive/most fun, an E46 M3 or an Integra DC2 type R. Considering purchasing one or the other in the near future.

Depends what you want it for and what sort of driver you are. Hard to pick to be honest.

Neither is going to be as raw or engaging as an Elise etc.

It’ll be a summer toy used on the road for 97% of the time.

In terms of what type of driver I am, that’s harder to answer. I’m an ‘EVO mag’ type of driver if that makes sense. I like pushing a car, trying to extract everything it’s got.

Then I'd say the Integra is exactly what you need. This is a car that needs a driver to have full commitment to get the most out of it, and it's not so fast that you'll be going to jail every time you press the loud pedal. It's quite short geared too which makes it ideal for B road hooning.

The M3 is nice but it's much heavier and it feels it, lovely engine but, I think, likely too fast to be fully enjoyable on British roads without risking a ban. I also just think BMWs feel a bit serious and lack the fun side of the Type R but there will be many who'll disagree. I guess try both if you can (appreciate that might not be too easy).

Also if it matters the Type R will be cheaper to run and more reliable.

It sounds like the Integra is what you're looking for.

You sound like me as I like to have a highly engaging car on road.

I had an Integra for many years - better than the E46 M3 for that sort of driving but I found it ultimately a bit dull. FWD was the key issue in many ways and it's steering isn't that great.

If you don't need the practicality, go for an Elise for similar cash. I sorted one wipes the floor with the Honda.

Also if you are using year round, the Integra rusts like a bugger.

Not sure if you've seen it but might find it useful?

I've owned two E46 M3's.. great cars, but too heavy, and not what you're looking for.

A DC2 is a wonderful thing, one of the finest drivers cars I've had, irrespective of wheels driven.
