640d boot

I have a 2014 640d coupe. The boot is not electric but in my old 2004 coupe it used to pop open on a spring when you pushed the button. This boot feels heavy as if it should be sprung loaded . Can anyone else advise

you have to start lifting some weights lol
Mine is the same, only pops open slightly when opened with the remote. Guess you can try some new boot struts PN 51247360584
Shame they never fitted a bloody electric boot yet the 5 series got one.

It's more just irritating if you have shopping in your arms. Was an electric boot an option on these?

My 2002 and 2004 E46 Compact tailgates would open by themselves if you pressed the release button on the key.

I assume they just had very strong struts fitted, but I don't know of any other model that had that feature - my E87, E91 and E86s didn't, but it was really handy. Although they were a bit sluggish when the temperature dropped to around freezing.

Nope, some people say when the weather is warmer the gas struts open better but I think new ones are the only option. If the car is under warranty guess you can try get some replaced that way?

I have owned two 640d albeit both Gran Coupe. I had the struts replaced on both under warranty and it made a slight difference to the opening but they only ever popped fully open in hot weather, in the winter you could barely get your fingers under the lip to open. I don't think electric assistance was ever an option.

i ordered some ebay specials so will try them out at the weekend.

Finally fitted those ebay ones, work spot on. Not as robust as the BMW ones but for the price I ain't complaining since they work and open the boot without any issues.

I changed the boot struts on my GC 3.5 years ago. Wanting to ensure the boot opened properly from the keyfob I had some custom struts made. Still working a dream.

The standard struts are 375nm. I went for 500nm. Probably a bit too much as my wife then couldn't close the boot . I'd recommend c450nm.

My F30 struts are weak after 10 years. I may change them, if its not too dear. More a minor irritation than a disaster. The fob still opens the boot OK.
