I'm in trouble with the Mrs as I was here when this was fitted today and she wasn't, I didn't thoroughly check all was OK before the guys left... headache

Basically the isolator box thing at the side of the meter box is preventing the gate from fully opening and the gate bolt locating in it's socket. Could the installers have sited this any differently to prevent this from happening? Should I request them to come back and relocate it??

Yes can be anywhere really within reason? They could easily move it up higher if needed.

I would say that a poor job with poor planning - surely a site visit prior to installation would have drilled down on the details ?

Drill a new hole for the gate.

Was my suggestion to the missus obvs, but she's pissed that the gate doesn't open fully out now (she often hits the fence on the other side already hehe)

I think this would be the easiest/quickest!

Cut out a section of the gate which matches the LX box. Job done. Flush to the wall. Bosh

Move it to the left - further than the swing of the gate, or above the gate (but that would look pretty ugly) or move it to the other side of the gate next to the drainpipe.

Maybe i’m a bit fussy,, but the way the cable goes around the bottom of the gate post, that would annoy me too!

Proper planning, a diyer would make it look better.

Looks ste. Surely unbolting the gate and running the cable behind it, or notching the post, or similar would've been far better. Corner-cutting job.

I agree, but at last it matches the new black tarmac the DNO laid recently after their 2nd attempt at de-looping us! It's all been a bit of a carry on grumpy

Yeah. What's so silly is that the installer is clearly quite capable of pretty tidy work, but he's just laid things out really badly. And that loop of cable round the bottom of the post ... how could anyone think that was a good idea??

It's been "referred to management" lol. They are saying they did discuss how far it would come out and that I agreed to it and signed off on it.

We did discuss with them (both me and the missus, before she left for work) how we didn't want the charger itself to foul the gate, so why they think if they had told me the box next to the meter would that I would agree to that?! That makes zero sense!

Let's see where this goes...

They've also seemingly fitted a plastic board on a brand-new installation. Metal outdoor-rated IP consumer units exist. I'd bring this up with them too.

Easier: Use a rock to hold the gate open.

Ask them to look at putting the "isolator thing" inside the meter box if they can - Maybe open it up & post a picture so we can see if there might be room.

Get them to mount the Ohme charger directly above the gate post then the incoming cable on the left of the charger drops down the back side of the gatepost & into the meter box & the outgoing cable to the plug drops down the outside of the gatepost & on to the holder. Then there's no ugly loop of cable round the gatepost.

They shouldn't be mounting inside the meter box technically - this is correct. The meter box is not theirs/your demise to work in. Technically DNO only.
The EV consumer unit, however, should be metal and with an SPD fitted.

EDIT: there's not even any room, ignoring the fact it shouldn't be mounted in there technically.

Plastic CU in a position where a cast iron gate can whack into it. What could possibly go wrong?
