Hello there, are there any Edinburgh folk who could advise what is a good option for parking to see a gig at Murrayfield? Coming from the West, happy to have a 20 minute walk to the stadium/car, would prefer not to annoy any locals smile

Public transport from my home isn't an option, and unsure if park and ride type services (Edinburgh Park, Ingliston, Hermiston) will have a bus to get me back to the car so late on a Sunday night, or if they are even safe places to leave the car though it's nothing rare or special.

TIA

After a concert, most people walk back from Murrayfield on the main road to Haymarket station. They close the road for this purpose and it is a 1 mile walk. Getting on busses, uber, etc any closer is chaos so bank on doing the walk both ways.

Once you are at Haymarket most of the centre is within a 20 minute walk. Waverley station is about a 10 min walk further on from Haymarket.

I only know city centre parking. Likely not practical but for info it is permit parking with each street having a number of pay to park bays. £4 and upwards per hour depending how central (e.g Stockbridge £4.20 per hour) and free in the evening but very difficult to find a pay spot after about 3pm because permit holders can park in the pay bays plus free in evenings for non permits. RingGo is the pay parking app to use and each street has a machine with a number to use on RingGo. There are streets further out with no permits or pay but of course these get full. Central Edinburgh is very safe but not sure how comfortable I would feel in all areas as you move further out (usual mix of posh and not so posh neighbourhoods).

If you are doing the walk to/from Haymarket you can work out parking options related to walking or busses to/from the Haymarket - Waverley strip.

Gigs usually finsh at 11pm sharp.
Park at Ingilston P&R.
The tram runs until midnight or if you miss that the 100 airport bus runs 24/7 along the main road.
Failing that a taxi from murryfield to the P&R will be less than £20

Cheers, knowing theres a bus that runs 24/7 that can get us back to the car park makes this look the best option.

I know there's on-street parking for free in many neighbourhoods but without knowing which roads may or may not be closed, a whether they fill up early, means without local knowledge I'll probably avoid that option.

Definitely not taking the walk up the road to Haymarket, have done that several times, queued in the huge badly mismanaged line for the overcrowded train, and at the other end it's a pain to get from the train in the centre of Glasgow to home.

Just work out where you are getting that bus from though whilst the stadium is emptying, It runs from Haymarket up to Murrayfield and then to the airport and the crowds emptying out has an impact on it. Getting on any public transport after a concert there is always a PITA as is getting an Uber.

Cheers - as long as we are comforted by the fact it runs 24hrs anyway we are happy to start walking down away from town and pick up the bus at one of the quieter stops/streets further away from the stadium. Will check out the route and stops and head to one that's perhaps a stop or two away from the immediate vicinity of Murrayfield.

Went to AC/DC at Murrayfield last year, and to try and simplify it, we booked to stay in Perth and get a gig bus. Meant our seats were pre-booked and we just had to meet the gig bus at the allotted pick up point, that was the same as where we were dropped off. As we left on the bus, the queues for the regular buses were huge, with not a lot of signs of movement. We zoomed past thousands of folk all walking.

May not work in your case, but was good to have the knowledge that a bus would be there with a seat on it with your name on it.

Hmm, who runs such gig buses and where do I book?

Might be too late for Sunday but we are back for another at Murrayfield next month.
