Am I the only one who thought that Camilla looked ridiculous in her little cosplay uniform costume?

She always looks like she would rather be anywhere else in the world.
Not a fan of her at all, but I do think she'd have been happier if Charles wasn't the future / current king

Queen Camilla holds several official, honorary military roles, most notably becoming the first woman in British history appointed as Vice-Admiral of the United Kingdom in 2025. Her other primary ceremonial appointments include serving as the Colonel of the Grenadier Guards and Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Lancers and The Rifles.

Is it a tribute to the Chelsea pensioners?

Like I said, ridiculous.
Only to the extent that all the other Royals' titles and uniforms are equally ridiculous as is all the related pomp and pageantry....

yes The get-up Brian and Willie are wearing is equally silly, ruritanian rejects from a production of HMS Pinafore. 99% of it is made up by the factotums, who all pretend it's "always been done this way". Both would look better in actual uniforms.

The bit that I never quite get is the explanation that Queen Camilla wears a formal dress ceremonial uniform but Princess of Wales doesn't because Camilla has active military rank even if they are honorary and Catherine does not.

Yet the latter was today wearing a nice dress coat and hat with the brooch of the Irish Guards of which she is Colonel.

Also Colonel-in-Chief 1st Queens Dragoon Guards, Commodore RAF Coningsby, C-i-C Fleet Air Arm.

Obviously today explains why the Irish Guards brooch chosen.

Willing to be corrected on some specific reasons that I don't understand but it does feel like there is a bit of a personal choice element, which is imo fair enough.

The whole thing is a ghastly freak show, but it's not their fault - they are like the bizarre exhibits at a weird zoo.

Far worse are the obsequious toadies that regard them as some sort of superior beings & hang on every aspect of their daily existence.
I'm thinking in particular of the sad sacks that camp overnight outside that church at Sandringham on Xmas Eve, just to catch a 30 second glimpse of them walk past into the church.

Each to their own I guess, but why on earth would you do that, rather than spend Xmas Day at home with your family? scratchchin

I'm only surprised Donald Trump wasn't invited as special guest of honour to inspect the cavalry, or whatever.

Charles' investiture included some ridiculous outfits. I'm not anti-royal but there really needs to be a serious updating.

While we are on the subject, what are guardsmen's bearskins all about? Also the yeomen of the guard? Beefeaters? fking ludicrous.

I can't understand why the army has all those horses - loads of them!

What practical use are they these days?

Horses are frightened of bearskins so they likely served a practical purpose for guardsmen.

We are told the MOD has no money - horses are not cheap to look after, but all this ceremonial - which is rehearsed for weeks beforehand - is never questioned.
