"
A 21-year-old woman fell to her death from a bridge in Brazil after bungee jump staff allegedly threw her over the edge without attaching her bungee rope.

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas was killed at the Ponte do Esqueleto, an abandoned railway bridge in Limeira, São Paulo, in front of horrified witnesses. Workers had launched her from the 130ft drop in a “Superman” pose."

Solves the problem of thinking up stuff to discuss at their annual appraisal.

You know this awful incident has been all over my social media feeds today.

Didn't search for it. Didn't ask for it. Don't want to see it. But on X just about every other post seems to be this poor woman being thrown off a bridge.

As much as it's tragic I can't work out what would make someone want to be thrown off a bridge with a rope by what looks like a pretty dodgy bunch of people and I damned sure can't work out how we've got to a point where a video of her dying when they forget the rope is pretty much all over social media.

Whatever direction you look you're just left scratching your head going "what were you thinking?".

Just awful.

I think I might have spotted your mistake.

When I was in the army I did a course which qualified me to do the jumps course… this would lead me to get my ‘wings’ and slightly more money. Much pressure was placed on me to do this.

I still believe now what I believed then. Only two things fall from the sky. Bird st and idiots. And the only way I’d be jumping out of a plane with a parachute would be if it had serious mechanical problems.

I see no joy in jumping with a bouncy rope. I feel lawful for the lady and her family but can’t understand why she’s chose to do this.

The lady doing the jump?

For the thrill. People do many things for the thrill of it, and often a good chunk of the thrill is that it's dangerous. Of course you never think you'll be the rough end of the statistic. Rollercoasters, parachuting, wing walking, skiing, track days....all driven by the same thing more or less.

(I did the Vic Falls one 30yrs ago...think it was the highest land based one at the time so was happy to call it quits after that smile).

People posting the video? Modern life and social media. I think it's disgraceful personally, though overall I wonder how much different it really is than showing the Hawker Hunter crashing on the motorway, or the Space Shuttle exploding etc. We are gory fkers, it seems. And Social Media just amplifies it/makes it much easier to do.

tbh that sort of thing makes me think govts are possibly on the right track in banning them. These "platforms" and people on them seemingly have zero sanction for what they publish, and zero restraint/sense.

I can see how it would happen. The employees are doing it day day out so easy to lose concentration.

Another example of this was the experienced skydive who forgot to put his chute on.

It happened because morons were running it

No checks and balances whatsoever.

Absolute aholes

Ps she must have been a bit dim too
1 for signing up for it
2 for not checking she was hooked up before allowing someone to launch her from a height

Notwithstanding that, an absolute shocking loss of life

I hate heights especially as I get older, so Bungee jumping terrifies me.

Poor girl, just thinking about it is horrific.

It seems the accident did happen judging by the reporting on the BBC and other networks.

A quick google shows there was a similar incident in India last year which turned out to be AI.
