I ve owned many cars in my life, and to be honest, I currently have too many. Nevertheless like many of you, I imagine I constantly feel the urge to hunt for new bargains and cars I simply *must* have. Here is a list of the cars I have owned or still own.

Opel Kadett 1.6 Tiffany Edition
Scirocco GT2 1.8
Scirocco GTX 1.8
Scirocco GTX 16V
VW Vento 1.9 TDI Beach Edition
Polo 6N2 1.4 TDI
Scirocco G60 Conversion
Seat Ibiza 6l Cupra
Golf 3 GTI
Mercedes Benz W204 220CDI AMG
Seat Ibiza 6J Bocanegra FR 2.0 TDI
Mercedes Benz A Klasse W176 200CDI
VW Caddy 1.9D
Skoda Fabia 3 - 1.4 TSI
Ford Fiesta ST 180
Audi S1
Ford Fiesta ST150
Seat Ibiza 6L 1.4
Mercedes SL 500 R129
Porsche Cayman 981S
Porsche 914 1.8
Golf 7 GTI Performance
Seat Leon FR 1.5TSI Sondermodell Black Matt
BMW E36 M3 (US Spec)
Cupra Leon 2.0 TSI 300HP
Scirocco GTX 16V (own)
Suzuki Swift Sport MZ (own 2x)
VW UP GTI (own)
Ford Transit 1.0 2025 (own)
BYD Seal Excellence 3.8s (own)
Toyota MR2 W3 (own)
Mazda MX5 1989 NA (own)
Renault Twizy 80 (own)

So, I m wondering which car I really ought to try out next. I realize that, apart from the SL, there aren't any V8s on my list. To be honest, I don't like big, heavy cars. I prefer small, sporty ones where your driver's license isn't at risk the moment you wind out second gear.

What im currently looking at

Subaru WRX GR 2011 (never had a Rallye inspired car)
Subaru WRX (Blobeye)
Mazda RX8 (never had a wankel engine)
VW Lupo GTI (i think i have this covered by the UP and the Swift, but i kind of like the idea)
Triumph Spitfire 1500 (might also be covered by the MX5)
Nissan Micra K11 SuperS (might be covered by the Swift)
Audi A4 B5 1.8T Quattro
Honda S2000 (never owned a VTEC but i worked at Honda for 3 years and allways fancied one)

Any suggestions what to try and what to sell? As you can see im bad at selling cars, i just dont like to let them go and most of the time i regretted selling a car shortly after. Space for more cars is getting a problem thought.

It was a BMW E36 M3 in US Spec (245HP). Bought Cheap, sold expensive. I never really warmed up to it. I think it has a lot to do with the image BMW (or the drivers) has in Germany. The Porsche 981S was a fast RWD car (the one i regret selling the most) so i get your point ....

Having owned an NA MX5 and now an S2000 I much preferred the MX5 to be honest.
Sure the V Tech yo engine is more interesting but it does not really shine in my opinion but we are all different.
I do get the MX5 thing even though its a bit of a standing joke here.

How about a Caterham / Westfield or an Elise or F Type.

A Lotus Elise would be a step on from your MR2 while still being super small and light.

More money, but the A110 is fairly light and chuckable while still being decent for touring.

Consider an FD RX-7 if you're interested in a rotary, they feel pretty compact, light and responsive but with a lovely powerband. However I wouldn't buy any rotary without identifying a _reliable_ specialist to care for it. Again a good all-rounder.

DC2 Integra Type R (as per Russell Bulgin)

Renaultsport Clio 182 or 197
Peugeot 306 GTi or Rallye

Toyota GR Yaris - akin to a Subaru WRX but smaller, lighter and guaranteed not to go wrong for a decade.

Toyota GR86 - a bit like an RX-7 but simpler and much easier to keep on the road.

Triumph Stag - might be a way of ticking the classic convertible box while also scooping up a V8 without being too big, heavy or expensive?

Of your list:
WRX maybe, consider GRY as above, also Lan Evo 4-9.
RX-8 yes if you can find a good specialist
Lupo - not another VAG hot hatch surely?
Spitfire - not convinced unless you really want to try your luck with the swing axles? MX-5 as you say.
Micra K11 - not convinced SuperS is enough of a step over the standard car which is a bit soft and rolls rather readily. There's a Mk1 Daihatsu Sirion out there with a 110hp 1.3 which sounds more promising.
A4 - doesn't seem like your sort of car
S2000 - worth a try

Thanks for all the very good sugestions, especially to you, Samoht you really looked into it clap

Lets look into the cars suggested

- Elise - i testdrove a MK1 several years back and i did not understand the hype. I think it was a bit too pure for me. I think i would rather replace the engine in the MR2 for a TS version instead. The MR2 is brilliant to be honest.
- F-Type - i really like the looks of these. It was one of the cars I considered when I bought my Cayman. What held me back was the massive depreciation with Jaguar. Maybe worth a look now.
- A110 is a good suggestion. Unfortunatly the missus does not like the looks.
- FD RX-7 - hard to find as a left hand drive car. Currently there is 1 (one) for sale in Germany and that is 66k and its green.
- Integra DC2 - allready on my list, just forgot it. If i ever find one in white, LHD, good price im sure i will buy it
- Renaultsport Clio 182 or 197 - not a fan of french metal, maybe im really missing out. I drove a 197 when it was released and was a bit disappointed by its performance, never looked back since.
- Peugeot 306 GTi or Rallye - also french scratchchin
- Toyota GR Yaris - Im sure these a real weapons but i just dont understand the price tag. I understand it's something special, but when I look at it, I don't see the price. Even used ones. Maybe one day if these ever depreciat, which i doubt.
- Toyota GR86 - i really really like these. Good call. I kind of missed out that the GT86 got an facelift. If i could find a manual, blue for sub 30k .... yes
- Triumph Stag - not for me ... sorry
- Siron 110hp - not availabe in germany frown

Again ... thank you for the suggestions...

Chimaera - V8, a complete event even at low speeds and half decent ones could be half the price of the cheapest F type.

There are a few, but they’re easily twice the price of RHD.

Porsche 911. Depending on budget, buy an early 996.1 C2 in manual form. The 996.2 and 997.1 are also worth a try.

Buy well and you won’t lose come resale. And no, a Cayman or Boxster is not the same.

You have a Triumph Spitfire 1500 in the list...

What about a nice late GT6 Mk3? Late enough to have the simpler rear suspension but without the handling nasties of the Mk1.

Small light and fun, I see a Swift Sport which is a great choice but no Mini, its exactly the same size and only marginally heavier. Any of the 2 litre B48 powered versions are seriously quick cars especially in JCW trim and can be mapped up to GP3 power levels if thats important. The 7 and 8 speed auto boxes work well but obviously no good if a manual box is a must have.

I'm not sure I'd recommend a Spitfire, but at least with a GT6 you've got the fast back and the more interesting sounding IL6.

I've only ever experienced well used ones, but I'm not convinced they were anything special to drive new. I love the Michelotti styling and the compact size and tight turning circle but....as a fun toy for a few short drives it may be OK and if money and space was no object....
